Today Siรบlรณid@CCRC gathered to walk, talk and mark World Environment Day 2026 which takes place this Friday, 5th June ๐๐ฟ
The campaign calls on everyone to step in, go further, and with this in mind walkers visited Bennetts Mill Field Biodiversity Park to witness all the incredible growth there including Flax Lรญn, which is part of the โFlax โ Threads of Timeโ project there in conjunction with Kathy Kirwan, Clonakilty Tidy Towns, The Heritage Council and the local community. Over the coming months Flax Lรญn are organising a number of flax and linen events in West Cork, including the planting of flax around Clonakilty to remember the bicentenary of the collapse of the linen industry in Clonakilty, heritage skills at Clonakilty Old Time Fair and craft workshops during Heritage Week.
If you are interested in joining Flax Lรญn please email Kathy at [email protected]

On returning to the Centre a feast awaited. A delicious, nutritious Ger Mehigan inspired summer salad using fresh ingredients from local producers including Shannonvale Foods, Clonakilty Blackpudding and Bushby's Rosscarbery Strawberries. Reducing the carbon footprint, supporting local, all very healthy and tasty. Ger talked us through preparing your own caesar salad dressing, shopping efficiently, and underlining the importance once again of buying and supporting local.
Our sincere thanks to Ger, and Damian Quinn, both from the SICAP Programme at West Cork Development Partnership, for their generosity of time today. Everyone enjoyed their steps, learning, and being together, and left with a spring in their step (and full tummies!!) ๐ฃ๐ฅ๐โ๏ธ๐๐ฟ
