Today’s Siúlóid@CCRC outing was further discovery on the Flax Lín Project 🌿
Having previously visited some sites to see the Flax growth, walkers completed all sites today with firstly a visit to our very near neighbours at the Clonakilty Museum. Here we viewed the flax growing before taking a further stroll through our beautiful town and down towards the bypass to admire the flax planted in the boat overlooking the bay.
There were plenty of stories, discussions and reminiscing along the way, with some participants remembering flax being grown and produced locally a few decades ago.
We then called into Geata Arts where Ciara explained more about the project, showing us some flax, as modelled by some walkers below, and learnt about their involvement in the project. This including Mark planting the flax seeds along with others using a traditional seeder.
We also heard about the Samhain Festival, the upcoming parade and workshops, including mask making and more.
For more information on the Flax Project, check out Flax Lín on Instagram and for more information on the Samhain Festival please visit Geata Arts or Samhain Festival.
Then it was back to the Centre for the obligatory cuppa along with fresh, delicious bread and beautiful apple and blackberry jam, compliments of Julia Slyne.
And, of course, there was plenty of chatting, catching up and putting the world to rights — as always!
Another lovely morning of walking, learning, reminiscing and community 💚❤️👣
