FORUM has a long history of development in Connemara having been established in 1989 by Connemara West as one of the model action projects under the Poverty Three Programme (1989-1994). After the success of this programme in 1994 FORUM received core funding under the Community Development Programme and began to implement a number of other programmes on behalf of various state agencies.

We’re delighted to see Sinéad Grimes, Project Manager of the Dúlra Project, included in the new Women in Agriculture: Driving Change under Ireland’s CAP Strategic Plan booklet, which will be launched in Tullamore tomorrow, 3 September.

Sinéad previously worked on FORUM Connemara’s locally led EIP-Agri projects in farm safety and upland agriculture. She now manages Dúlra, our community-led project working with local landowners on invasive species control, peatland restoration and practical nature restoration across Connemara.

The booklet shares the experiences of women working in agriculture, food production, rural enterprise, research, education and environmental projects across Ireland. It is great to see such a wide range of work recognised, and to have visible role models for women and girls considering a future in the sector.

Congratulations to everyone featured, and thanks to CAP Network Ireland for bringing their stories together.

Puppet Show for Families! 🎭

Bígí linn do Seó Puipéad saor in aisce don teaghlach, feiliúnach do pháistí 0–8 mbliana d’aois!

Looking for something fun for the little ones? Join us for a FREE family puppet show, suitable for children aged 0–8 years!

Beidh an seó dátheangach agus spreagfar na gasúir le cibé Gaeilge atá acu a úsáid agus iad ag spraoi agus ag caint leis na puipéid. Bealach spraíúil, réchúiseach leis an nGaeilge a úsáid 🎭

The show will be presented bilingually and through Irish, with plenty of fun and interaction along the way. Children and families will be encouraged to use whatever Gaeilge they have to chat and interact with the puppets- a relaxed and enjoyable way to bring Irish to life outside the classroom.

This HSE programme is free, and evidence based. It is scheduled to start on Thursday the 10th of September from 10.30am until 1.00pm for six Thursdays.

It is aimed to help people manage their long-term health conditions and improve their wellbeing. Anyone with any chronic illness such as diabetes, arthritis, COPD, cardiac illness, anxiety, etc. can benefit from these workshops.

This programme will be delivered by trained facilitators, once a week, over a 6-week period in a friendly and supportive setting. This was very much appreciated when it ran here in Clifden last year as we are sure it will be in Oughterard too. HSE Ireland

Clochán ag Fás – Seoladh an Ghairdín Pobail

Bhí áthas mór orainn inné Clochán ag Fás, ár ngairdín pobail ar an gClochán, a sheoladh.

Comhoibriú idir ár gClár SICAP agus Plean Teanga Chlochán, ag tabhairt daoine le chéile chun fás, foghlaim agus taitneamh a bhaint as an ngairdín.

Clochán ag Fás – ag fás le chéile!

Clochán ag Fás – Community Garden Launch

Yesterday we were delighted to launch Clochán ag Fás, our community garden in Clifden.

The garden was officially opened by Galway County Council Biodiversity Officer Rosina Joyce and Galway Rose Jodi Kenny.

A wonderful collaboration between our SICAP Programme and the Irish Language Plan for Clifden, bringing people together to grow, learn and enjoy the garden.

Clochán ag Fás – growing together!

Our Community Gardners meet weekly on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00am - 1:00pm
