FORUM has a long history of development in Connemara having been established in 1989 by Connemara West as one of the model action projects under the Poverty Three Programme (1989-1994). After the success of this programme in 1994 FORUM received core funding under the Community Development Programme and began to implement a number of other programmes on behalf of various state agencies.

Fáilte Ireland, in partnership with the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht, has launched a new online learning module to support the planning and delivery of safe, responsible and sustainable outdoor activity events across Ireland.

Outdoor activity events play an important role in connecting people with Ireland’s landscapes and communities, while also enhancing the visitor experience. This course supports organisers in creating events that are enjoyable for participants, respectful of place, and positively experienced by local communities and visitors alike.

The interactive module brings the Guidelines for Organising Outdoor Activity Events to life, supporting their practical application in planning and delivering events. The guidelines were developed through Comhairle na Tuaithe as part of Embracing Ireland’s Outdoors: The National Outdoor Recreation Strategy 2023-2027.

Suitable for both new and experienced organisers, it applies to a wide range of activities including walking, cycling, trail running, swimming and more.

FORUM welcomes the announcement yesterday by Dara Calleary TD that the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme (ORIS) 2026-2027 has opened. The funding provided by the Minister and the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht through this scheme is hugely important for the development and maintenance of recreational infrastructure in our area. We look forward to working with local community groups over the coming months to identify suitable projects through the scheme.

Wishing all the very best to the Class of 2026 as they begin their Leaving Cert and Junior Cert exams tomorrow.
Just remember. results come and go, honours fade, and the pressure of these weeks will soon become a memory. What will remain is your strength, your effort, your kindness, your friendships, your humour and the person you are becoming.
There is so much waiting beyond the exam hall, so many roads, chances, choices and possibilities. The future is wide open, and it is yours for the taking.
So mind yourselves, sleep when you can, eat properly, keep perspective, and remember that one paper will never define who you are!
Good luck to every student starting tomorrow.
You have already achieved so much, now go and give it your best.

Guímid gach rath ar Rang 2026 agus iad ag tosú ar an Ardteistiméireacht agus ar an Teastas Sóisearach amárach.

Tar éis na hoibre crua ar fad, na bpleananna staidéir, na nótaí athbhreithnithe, na sleachta, na foirmlí, na haistí agus na teoirimí, tá an t-am tagtha faoi dheireadh.

Tógaigí anáil, bíodh muinín agaibh as an obair atá déanta agaibh, agus tóg gach páipéar ceann ar cheann.
Tagann agus imíonn torthaí, cailleann onóracha a dtábhacht le himeacht ama, agus is gearr go mbeidh brú na seachtainí seo ina chuimhne.
An rud a fhanfaidh ná bhur neart, bhur n-iarracht, bhur gcineáltas, bhur gcairdeas, bhur ngreann agus an duine atá sibh ag éirí ann.

Tá an saol mór ag fanacht libh taoh amuigh den halla scrúdaithe, bóithre nua, deiseanna nua, roghanna nua agus féidearthachtaí gan teorainn. Tá an bóthar mór amach romhaibh anois, agus is libh féin é a shiúl agus bhur lorg a fhágáil air.

Mar sin, tugaigí aire daoibh féin, faighigí bhur scíth nuair is féidir, ithigí go maith, coinnígí peirspictíocht ar an saol, agus cuimhnígí nach aon scrúdú ná aon pháipéar amháin a insíonn bhur bhfíorluach.
Ádh mór ar chuile scoláire atá ag tosú amárach.
Tá an oiread bainte amach agaibh cheana féin, anois téigí isteach agus déanaigí bhur ndícheall.

We’re delighted that FORUM Connemara's Dúlra Project features in RTÉ’s new documentary series Wild Conamara, which begins this Sunday, May 31st at 6.30pm on RTÉ One.

In episode two, which will air next Sunday, the series filmed the team and spoke to Project Manager, Sinéad Grimes, and Project Ecologist, Conor Ryan, who highlight the teams work across the Connemara landscape to tackle the spread of rhododendron, one of the biggest threats to our native habitats, bogs, woodlands and wildlife. It is great to see this work recognised as part of the wider story of Connemara’s wild places and the people working to protect them.

A huge thanks to Crossing the Line Productions for including the Dúlra Project in this beautiful series and for helping to tell the story of the work happening on the ground to protect Connemara’s wild places.

Presented by Galway-based Eoin Warner, Wild Conamara takes viewers on a journey from Connemara’s islands and Atlantic coast to the summit of Binn Bhán, exploring the wildlife, habitats and communities that make this landscape so special.

We’re really looking forward to seeing Connemara’s wild landscape, and the work being done to protect it, brought to a national audience.

Wild Conamara begins on RTÉ One this Sunday, May 31st at 6.30pm

We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of a valued member of our SICAP community.

She was an active and valued participant in many FORUM Connemara activities, including our refugee support projects and community garden. Through her kindness, warmth, and involvement, she touched the lives of many people in our community.

Our hearts go out to her children, family, friends, and all those who knew and loved her. We cannot imagine the pain and grief they are experiencing at this devastating time.

Violence knows no borders or nationalities, and its impact leaves lasting pain for so many people. Today, we stand in solidarity with all those affected by this tragedy and with everyone impacted by violence.

On behalf of the FORUM Connemara and SICAP team, we extend our deepest condolences to her loved ones.

Rest in peace, Masuma.

Looking for a chilled evening out? We’re hosting a relaxed board‑game night with (optional) milkshake making — no pressure, no expectations, just a small friendly group and plenty of laughs. Come for the full evening or pop in for a little while, whatever suits you best. There will be lots of games to choose from, some old favourites and some that might be new to you. We will also have a table where you can do an individual game or craft if you would like to opt out of the group games.

We want this to feel comfortable for everyone, so tell us how we can make the space work for you. This event has young adults in mind who would enjoy an alternative space to socialize in, make new friends or to enjoy with a best buddy!

The event is being very kindly hosted by Woodfire Pizza (Letterfrack (on their night off from pizza making!)

Places are limited, so get in touch with Eithne to save a spot. Call or text 085 179 79 59
