Clara Defibrillator Scheme

Clara Defibrillator Scheme was founded in 2007 and provides CPR and Defibrillator training to people from Clara and the surrounding areas.

The Clara Defibrillator Scheme was set up in 2007. It provides and maintains 6 public access defibrillators around the town of Clara and also provides CPR and defibrillator training to local people. In tandem with the national ambulance service the scheme also supports the activation of the local fire brigade and local off duty paramedics (if available) as a first response to cardiac arrest calls

in and around Clara. This provides the early commencement of resuscitation efforts prior to the arrival of an emergency ambulance. The scheme does not receive any state funding and solely relies on local donations and fundraising efforts.

Thanks to the Rabbette family for their donation of over €800. The money was raised by the local gun club at a recent charity shoot in memory of the late Sean Rabbette, and presented to the Rabbette family. The family decided to donate it to our scheme. Our photo shows Sean's daughter Shauna, sister Mary and father Danny at the gun club presentation night. Thanks again to the Rabbette family and the gun club.

Following our recent assessment we have decided to move another of our public access defibrillators to a more suitable location.
The assessment of defibrillator locations suggested that a few of our units were located too close together, while other areas were without cover. This led to the recent relocation of the defibrillator on New Road to the new location at the pitch and putt club.
The unit on the Ballycumber road has now been relocated from the sports centre to a private residence on the main road at Erry.

The exact location is the 2nd house on the row of private houses on the left past BOPA/Rosderra meat factory, heading towards Ballycumber. Eircode R35C7K7.
This is the home of Bernacki Lucy, whom we thank. We also thanks all involved with the sports and leisure centre for their support over the years.
The new location means the unit is located closer to Marian Square, Lake view, Brendan Street, Bolands terrace and a large number of private houses, as well as Bretland Park ladies football ground.
The Westwood park/Grove estate, Esker Court, Corkhill, Railway view, Erry Mill, St. Patrick's terrace and Kinclare housing developments are served by the defibrillator at the swimming pool, which also serves the community pool, playground, Library and bog visitor centre.

All units are in marked, unlocked boxes and are available 24/7. Remember in the first instance dial 999.

The defibrillator on the new road has now been relocated a short distance to Erry pitch and putt club, eircode R35VY58. The unit is located in the covered area between the car park and clubhouse and is accessible 24/7. The new location provides better shelter from the elements. While still providing cover for the nearby housing schemes, which are also in close proximity to the unit at the community swimming pool, the new location also provides cover for two public locations where large numbers gather regularly, namely the pitch and putt club and Clara bog boardwalks.
Thanks to the pitch and putt club and our volunteers who helped with relocating the device. A special word of thanks to James and Sharon Stewart who allowed the defibrillator to be located on their wall for the past few years.

Hi Folks
The unit at the sports centre on Ballycumber road has been repaired and is now available again.
All our units have been checked and upgraded today with new defibrillator pads.
The cost of the pads and longlife battery for the broken machine came to €881 euro.
In addition all units were fitted with small self test 9 volt batteries, which were bought locally.
This brings the total cost of keeping the machines in working order to over €900, which would not be possible without the community's financial support in the past.

In addition, following a review, we will possibly be slightly relocating one or two of our defibrillators soon. This is to continue to serve their current locations but, at the same time spread them out a bit and provide closer cover for high risk locations. We will keep you updated on any movements.

URGENT NOTICE
DEFIBRILLATOR NOT WORKING

A routine check on local defibrillators has discovered that the device at "The unit gym" ,known locally as Michel Egan's leisure centre on Ballycumber road is not working. It has been removed from service to be checked and repaired, as necessary.
The nearest available defibrillator is located at Clara Community swimming pool.
Remember in case of emergency dial 999 or 112.

It's that time of year again. Time to say thanks for all the help in 2025. Thanks to those who supported us in any way in the past year. Those who raised funds or sponsorship, (our CD's are still on sale in Jel's kitchen, if you're stuck for a very late Christmas gift), those who work behind the scenes and those who responded to emergency call-outs at all hours of the day and night.
Remember to shop local this Christmas, where possible. Remember also that a simple phone call, text, wave or hello might make someone's Christmas.

A short remembrance ceremony for those who lost their lives, were injured, or those affected in any way by road traffic accidents will be held at Clara fire Station this Sunay evening, November 16th. The ceremony is hosted by locally based emergency services personnel. All are welcome. Refreshments served. Feel free to let others know.

Thanks to Clara gun and game conservation club and the Rosney family for their kind donation of €1350. The money was raised in a recent charity competition between Clara gun and game conservation club and Castle field sports, in memory of PJ Rosney. The family requested that the funds be given to our scheme. It will be used towards the maintenance of our public access defibrillators. RIP PJ.

We are very saddened to hear of the passing of PJ Rosney. PJ and his colleagues in the Clara gun and conservation club recently raised over €2000 for our voluntary scheme. They looked after the fundraising event from start to finish. PJ was a great supporter of our scheme, and had great belief in what we do. Sincere sympathy to PJ'S family, friends and colleagues in the gun club.
