As we were rained off on Monday evening a few of our volunteers were out on Tuesday evening. We continued and finished off the planting. We planted tagettes, lavender, catmint and creeping jenny to fill gaps in the planters on Main St.

Tony and Evelyn hung the hanging baskets on the Church0k railings and Evelyn and Tina planted Agapanthus in the triangle and weeded the bed.

Freda planted Nicotiana in the bed outside Abbey Physio which will produce a nice splash of colour when in full bloom..

Paddy & Trisha continued working on the rose bed at the Pumping Station, turning the sod over in preparation for putting down cardboard on Saturday and then putting a thick layer of compost on top of the cardboard. This will act as a mulch to keep in the moisture, provide nutrients and suppress weeds. We will feed the roses first with horse manure pellets.

A lot done. A lot more to do! !

We continued our planting this morning at the Pumping station. We had planted carpet roses there last year and we planted extra ones there today. The ground is very hard and dry so difficult to dig. Paddy and Trisha came to the rescue! πŸ‘ We planted the roses, fertilized them and gave them a good watering with water from the nearby stream. We then put a layer of farmyard manure around them to keep the moisture in and keep weeds at bay.

Our plan for this area is to turn the grass over, place cardboard over it and when the grass dies back we will mulch the whole bed. This rose bed will look impressive when completed.

Meanwhile Tony cut the grass in this area as well leaving it looking very well.

After a long, dry, warm week a lot of watering was needed around the Village.

When this job was completed we adjourned to Londis for our complimentary refreshments. Thank you all

On another beautiful morning we had a great turnout of volunteers! 🌝🌝

There is still a lot of planting to be done and Mary and Edith worked on this. They weeded along the lavender wall at the Abbey and planted Verbena and Calendula among the lavender. They also planted Calendula in the bed beside Campbell Tyres.

Freda, Trisha and Mary worked on the Ballinagappa Road and in particular along the stone wall beyond the hairdresser. Lots of weeds and scutch grass had taken hold and we scuffled and swept all that area leaving it looking so much better afterwards.

Another group worked on the Sallins Road from the Abbey to the Stream, scuffling, weeding and sweeping. They also weeded the bed in front of Campbell Tyres and in the Stream Park.

Paddy and Derek did a litter pick down as far as Lidl on both sides of the Road and back to the by pass.

This is a very busy time for Tidy Towns with our usual jobs of weeding, scuffling, watering and general maintenance. We are also in the middle of our planting. We would therefore encourage all business premises and private houses in the Village to help us out by keeping the outside of their shops/ houses clean, litter free and swept. This would be of enormous benefit to us. Many thanks in advance.

We then adjourned to Londis for our usual complimentary refreshments. Thank you all

Today saw our volunteers out in great numbers for our favourite task of the season, planting new flowers around the village.

The planters were prepared last Monday evening, they were refreshed with a mix of peat free compost, topsoil and some plant food.

Our plants were supplied locally by Joe Dunne in Staplestown.

We collected a lovely mix of flowers with our Pollinating bees and butterflies in mind. These should supply them with plenty of Pollen and Nectar and us with plenty of colour and cheer.
Among the plants supplied were Tagetes, Snap Dragons, Verbena and Nepeta. All of which should flower throughout the Summer into early Autumn. πŸͺ· πŸ’ πŸͺ»
We would like to say a big thank you to Mary Murtagh and Edith for planning what we were going to sow and where, making our job very easy this morning. Thank you ladies! πŸ‘

Some of our volunteers were also on the Kilcock Road. The area around the I798 monument was weeded.
The long strip of grass before St, Bridget’s Terrace was cut and edged, and it looks so much better for the attention.

We then took a well earned break in Londis with plenty of tea, biscuits, chat and laughter.

On Monday evening we were out working on the Main St. Finishing off scuffling, weeding and sweeping. We would like to thank Macaris' for the chips for all of us after our jobs were finished. We very much enjoyed them. 🍟 πŸ˜‹

What a beautiful morning we had today to be out doing what we love. 🌞 We had a great turnout of volunteers and we got through a lot of work.

Paddy, Tony and Derek worked down at the Pumping station weeding and cutting grass. They also needed the beech hedge behind the entrance walls which had been taken over by bindweed and other weeds.

We watered the new plants we had planted in the raised beds on the Prosperous Road outside the shops. These will add a great splash of colour when in full bloom. Thank you to PS Coffee Roasters, O’Briens Coffee Shop and Londis for facilitating us by filling our water buckets. πŸͺ£

We then worked on the raised beds and small planters in the Abbey grounds. They are looking spectacular at the moment and well worth a visit. We cut back plants which had finished flowering and weeded the area.

We then adjourned to Londis for our complimentary refreshments. Thank you as always.

We would also like to extend a warm welcome to our newest volunteer Tina Keogh who joined us this morning. We hope she will enjoy her time with Tidy Towns !

Another busy morning for our Volunteers.

A few of the Community Council members and a few of our Volunteers tackled the briars and weeds behind the Abbey. This area had become very overgrown and unsightly over the years and needed urgent attention. The men worked hard and cleared the area of all foliage leaving it looking so much better. (See photos of before and after!).

Paddy and Derek continued their job of cleaning out the Stream which they had started last week. Many bags of rubbish and debris were removed leaving the Stream free flowing and clean.

Meanwhile the rest of us continued our work on the Main St. scuffling, weeding and sweeping. We also picked a bag of rubbish from the area in front of the new library. This area needs urgent attention too.

After all that we enjoyed refreshments compliments of Londis as usual. Thanks Niall and staff.

Monday evening saw our volunteers out on the Main Street.

With judging not too far away we set about sweeping and weeding.
We collected 3 bags in all.

There was plenty of chat and craic to be had as we worked our way up to the Church.

If you have a couple of hours any Monday evening or Saturday morning, we would be delighted to have you join us .

Lovely morning for our jobs today. 🌝🌞

We continued the work we had started on Monday evening on the Kilcock Road. We trimmed back the Hornbeam hedge on the pedestrian entrance to Hillview and also the foliage along the path on the Kilcock road as far as the 1798 Monument.

We then returned to the Abbey where we weeded the Monument and swept and scuffled the path leaving to the Abbey.

Meanwhile Derek and Paddy cut off the broken branches from the trees which had been damaged during the week on the by pass. They also removed debris and litter from the stream preventing the water from flowing and did a litter pick in the playground and along the by pass.

We would like to welcome Dr. Paddy Madden who has joined us in Tidy Towns. We are delighted to have him on board and look forward to benefitting from his expertise.

After a great morning's work we adjourned to Londis for our complimentary refreshments. Thank you all.

With a great turnout of volunteers this morning we got through a lot of work.

We concentrated on the area from the traffic lights up to Yew Tree Apartments on the Prosperous Road and from the traffic lights down as far as Aldi on the Millicent Road. Lots of scuffling, weeding and sweeping was needed. We also tended to the shrub beds in front of Yew Tree Apts. Much of the foliage here had become overgrown and untidy so we cut back much of the growth and we are in the process of sourcing/planting new plants in these beds.

Meanwhile last Monday evening the 2025 SuperValu Tidy Towns Midlands and East Regional Awards presentations were held in the Royal Hotel, Dun Laoghaire. Padraig represented us and picked up our GOLD medal. Another great night for Clane Tidy Towns! ! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Lots done but lots more work to be done. Any new volunteers who would like to join us will be made very welcome.

We then adjourned to Londis for our refreshments. Thanks to them as always.
