The Celbridge Disability Access Group were delighted to receive such fantastic graphics courtesy of Ms Elaine Brady, Deputy Principal St Wolstans with a powerful message that not all disabilities are visible. Although this message is being highlighted this week as we celebrate Kildare Disability Week and the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025, it is important that inclusion should be at the forefront of our minds all year round as we all have a role in achieving inclusion for all.

This week, the Celbridge Disability and Access Group celebrated the International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2025. The theme for this year's International Day of Persons with Disabilities is “Fostering disability inclusive societies for advancing social progress” and we were delighted to co host with Dara a fantastic panel discussion and presentation looking at the National Human Rights Strategy for Disabled People 2025-2030 with community leaders in attendance. Many thanks to Dara community living and all those in attendance for a very thought provoking and insightful discussion.

In 2022, Celbridge Disability Access Group (CDAG) held a “Have Your Voice Heard” initiative, an event which listened to the voices of people with disailities themselves their families & carers, to inform the CDAG of the priorities of people with disabilities and carers in our local community.

One key priority identified from this session was the desire for further education which would lead to paid employment. Collaboration ensued between CDAG with FET Celbridge who facilitated this request and of the original 8 learners, 7 took 3 further QQI modules. 4 took 2 further modules progressing thru Level 5. One has just taken a Level 6 and another is now in University with some also progressing to full time employment.👏

These are spectacular achievements for any class group and demonstrates the huge potential and commitment of this group of learners. Huge thanks to all involved in making this happen on the CDAG & friends and to the manager & staff of Celbridge FET KWETB.

A National play day will take place on Saturday 6th September from 1-5PM!

There will be a dedicated Quiet hour from 11am - 12pm, with a quiet area throughout the day, at the National Playday. For further information or to book a “Fast Pass” contact 045 980553. A free family fun day at Barretstown will take place on August 31st with this fantastic event being funded by County Kildare Access Network (CKAN).
