The 12th James McManus Memorial Triathlon took place at Saturday, attracting athletes from across Ireland.
A total of 128 competitors took to the start line, with 123 completing the demanding course consisting of a 750km swim, a 20km cycle and a 5km run. While the rain fell steadily throughout the events, it did little to dampen the determination of the athletes or the enthusiasm of the supporters and spectators.
The event once again showcased the tremendous community spirit that has become synonymous with the and this West Cavan region. From the marshals and safety crews to the registration team, caterers, volunteers and supporters, every detail was carefully managed to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
Following the race, competitors were treated to much appreciated refreshments, including delicious curry and rice with both chicken and vegetarian options available, along with a plentiful supply of oranges and bananas to help weary athletes recover.
There was the most delicious carrot cake by which was moist and light and very 'moreish'. It was irresistible and its memory alone has me salivating.
Huge congratulations to Cuilcagh Triathlon Club and its dedicated volunteers for delivering another incredible event in this beautiful part of in the heart of .
The event also showcased the excellent facilities at Area, including showers, toilets and a purpose built wooden changing area, completed just two years ago , which proved particularly welcome given the wet weather.
Despite the rather challenging weather conditions though, the warmth of the welcome, the support of each athlete for another, and the professionalism of the Club ensured that it was another very successful and special event, ensuring James McManus' legacy lives on, and continues to bring community together and inspire young athletes.
