Some fantastic progress is being made widening the path from Blacklion village to Lough Mac Nean, to ensure improved accessibility for all ๐Ÿคฉ

This work is being carried out by Cavan County Local Development (CCLD) and Loughan House/Irish Prison Service (IPS) in collaboration with Blacklion Tidy Towns - a HUGE go raibh maith agaibh to both groups for working with us to make this possible! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜

This is a substantial project and will be ongoing for a number of weeks; we hope everyone will enjoy the finished project ๐Ÿ’ซ๐Ÿฅณ

We have been busy bees ๐Ÿ over the last few months. Here is some snippets of the work carried out by our wonderful volunteers ๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘ทโ€โ™‚๏ธ
We've been clearing the path on the N16, attending to our regular litter picks in the village and outskirts, clearing moss and strimming around the river walk, tending the wild meadow on the river walk bank, clearing weeds from the main streets in the village, painting the safety bollards around the village, setting new plant boxes around the village and so much more behind the scenes in paper work with applications for grants etc.

A massive shout out to those who quietly turn up, get the work done, and don't look for anything in return ๐ŸŒท๐Ÿ’ฎ๐Ÿงน๐Ÿซง

On Sunday 7th June, 2026 a bench was unveiled in Cavan Burren Park to honour the legacy of Seamus oโ€™hUltachain (Jim Nolan) who contributed so much to the West Cavan community and Blacklion. It is fitting that this bench is placed in Cavan Burren Park where Jim spent many, many days, whatever the weather exploring the area and highlighting its important heritage. We and generations to come will be forever grateful.

Huge thank you to everyone who came out to help with our litter pick/clean up on Sunday, itโ€™s massively appreciated ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿปโ˜บ๏ธ

We would also like to thank Cavan County Council, especially Maria, for their continued support and for providing all the equipment and skip for removing the litter ๐Ÿšฎ๐Ÿงน

Our efforts are continuing throughout the summer so please let us know if you can help out at any stage โ˜บ๏ธ

We are also putting together a rota for watering plants in the village and would greatly appreciate volunteers to help with this task - please message us if you can get involved! ๐Ÿชด๐ŸŒธ

Cavan County Local Development has been asked for issues affecting West Cavan to be included in this Plan 2026-2028
Cavan Local Community Safety Partnership wants to hear
from YOU!
Cavan Local Community Safety Partnership has launched a county wide Community Safety Survey and is encouraging everyone age 12 years and over to take part.
The survey will help shape the new County Cavan Community Safety Plan 2026โ€“2028, ensuring that local priorities and actions reflect the real concerns of those who live, work, and visit the county.
Community safety โ€” both being safe and feeling safe โ€” is a fundamental part of quality of life. Thatโ€™s why we want to hear from people across all our communities. Your feedback will play a vital role in identifying key challenges, needs, and opportunities and will directly inform the new three year plan.
Closing date Midnight 31st May
