Glenties Councillor Brian Carr has turned a terrifying family experience into a potentially life-saving initiative.

Last summer, Cllr Carr had an emergency after being caught in a rip current while trying to save his son and niece.

Emergency call handlers then struggled to pinpoint their location on the west Donegal beach.

This week, new location codes are being launched to help emergency services reach casualties along Donegal’s coastline more quickly.
