Castlebar Tidy Towns with Minister Alan Dillon – New Litter Fines from Today
Members of Castlebar Tidy Towns were delighted to be out with Minister of State Alan Dillon today, 1st September, as new increased litter penalties come into force.
From today the on-the-spot fine for littering and dog fouling increases from €150 to €250. The Government says the increase reinforces the 'polluter pays' principle and is aimed at deterring littering and supporting cleaner communities.
Minister Dillon reminded everyone of the simple message behind the national campaign – *‘Bin it or bring it home’* – if there is no bin nearby, take your litter home, and that includes dog waste.
We fully support this. A cleaner Castlebar means better quality of life, more pride in our town, and a more welcoming town for everyone.
A huge thanks to Minister Dillon for meeting our volunteers today and supporting our campaign.
