🌱 Following on from our last post about the Aglish Graveyard Project…

Here’s another look at the fantastic work carried out by the TY students of St. Gerald’s College as part of Phase 2.

Their hard work and enthusiasm have added 1,500 spring bulbs to the graveyard, which will bring plenty of colour in the seasons ahead. 🌼

A huge thank you to all the students, their teacher Niamh Loftus, and everyone who helped make the project happen.

A brilliant example of young people getting involved and making a lasting contribution to their community. 👏

Well Done to our TY Students!

A huge well done and thank you to the Transition Year students of St. Gerald’s College, Castlebar who took part in Phase 2 of the Aglish Graveyard Project.

This fantastic community project is undertaken by Castlebar Tidy Towns in collaboration with Mayo County Council and the St. Mary’s Hospital Heritage & Historical Society.

As part of Phase 2, the students planted 1,500 spring bulbs - 500 Bluebells, 500 Crocuses and 500 Snowdrops - which will give a wonderful splash of colour at various times during Spring and Summer 2027 and will greatly complement the planting already in place.

The students undertook the work with great enthusiasm under the guidance of John Murray, Phile Mabuza and Joe Butler.

A special word of thanks to their teacher / mentor Niamh Loftus for her kindness and support for this project.

It was wonderful to see young people giving their time and energy so generously for our community. The results will be enjoyed by all visitors to Aglish for years to come.

Well done to all involved!

Clear Our Paths – Small Actions Make a Big Difference!

A clear footpath makes a big difference to someone who is blind or vision impaired, a wheelchair user, a parent with a buggy, or anyone who needs a little extra space to get around safely.

🚗 Please don’t park on footpaths.
🐕 Clean up after your dog.
🗑️ Keep wheelie bins out of the way.
🪑 Make sure street furniture doesn’t block the path.
🌳 Trim overhanging branches.

These may seem like small things, but they can make everyday journeys difficult or even dangerous for others.

Let’s all do our bit to keep Castlebar’s footpaths clear, safe and accessible for everyone. A little consideration goes a long way! 💚
