Carrick On Suir Camphill Community

Carrick On Suir Camphill Community Carrick-on-Suir Camphill Community is where people with and without learning disabilities live and work together with a mutual relationship.

Carrick-on-Suir Community was founded at Michelmas (29th.September) 1996 by a group of people from Grangemockler Community. Initially the group lived at the Slate Quarries at Ahenny which is outside of Carrick-on-Suir, while they purchased a small farm and house (February 1997) in Carrick-on-Suir. They commuted from the Slate Quarries to the farm everyday. One of the guiding principles for us in t

he beginning was that the community would be formed by the individuals in the community, a principle which still lives with us in meeting the diverse needs of individuals. Following a period of pioneering in the Slate quarries, we moved to our first town house - Brogan in January 1998. We continued building many diverse living situations and workshops in the town and on the farm. Our most recent additions are three houses in a housing estate adjacent to the farm. Over the last thirteen years we have grown from 8 to 45 people resident in the community.
