Carlow Youth Theatre

Carlow Youth Theatre Term by term instruction in theatre practice and process drama for young people regardless of experience or ability, based in VISUAL Carlow

Designed to promote the artistic creativity of young people through the theatrical form, workshops are held weekly and offer a constructive space for YT members to develop skills in the areas of acting, directing, stagecraft and scripting. Facilitated by highly qualified and experienced leaders/tutors Síle Penkert and Eimear Cheasty. Both of whom have in-depth knowledge of the theatre making, prod

uction and scripting process. Carlow Youth Theatre endeavours to bring young people through a process that sees them engaging in the creative arts in a constructive, fun and safe manner, while exploring their potential as young theatre makers. The mainstay of the work happens on a term by term basis with two groups currently based in the safe & warm Cathedral Parish Centre College St. Monday evenings from 5:30pm-7pm & 7:30pm-9:30pm. Funded entirely by the Arts Office of Carlow County Council, fees are kept deliberately low to maximise access to the Youth Theatre

Some moments from our Senior Group workshop at Carlow Youth Theatre.

Our Senior Group (ages 14–18) meets every Monday from 7.00–9.00pm. The sessions explore devising and improvisation while building performance techniques and experience as the group progresses.
The workshops are fun and based on collaborative devising. Participants create short scenes and stage them for each other during the session. The themes explored are often chosen by the group and relate to topics relevant to this age group. Each session also includes feedback and discussion about the scenes created.

Watch the short films created by our talented young people as part of this year’s Cruinniú na nÓg project – Carlow Through Our Eyes.

Each film shares a unique perspective — stories about Carlow, about themselves, and about the people who make this place whatever it is for them. Every piece has its own vibe, voice, and creative way of storytelling.
We are so proud to support and celebrate the incredible talents of our youth.

A glimpse into our latest workshops!

Our young people recently took to the streets of Carlow to capture footage that reflects Carlow through their eyes. They then developed a beautiful short movement piece to accompany the visuals — all as part of our Cruinniu Na Nog Carlow 2025 Project.

Come see the final presentation this Saturday, 7th June at 5:00 p.m.
📍 An Gairdín Beo, Carlow (R93 E1HF)
🎟 Free entry

The evening will include a screening of the short films, a live movement piece, and a chance to chat over tea and snacks.
