Founded and Directed by Mary Austin, it all started in 2003 following Mary's experience with the National Learning Network teaching drama to adults with different abilities, Mary then decided to start her own Theatre Group to cater specifically for them. The first show was a Nativity in St Fiacc's Hall Graiguecullen which has now become the place where all the shows are put together. We are now w
orking on our 12th show, to be performed in the George Bernard Shaw Theatre in October 2011. Each show is unique as it is built form the ideas and choices of character from the group. This means everyone can participate at any level and all feel any ownership of the finished product. the group make the 'patches' and Mary creates a story from that. It is mostly physiological theatre with a narration by Mary to ensure continuity. As time progressed the group became more skilled in the performing arts and now cast songs and dances are part of each show. Patchwork Threatre Group achieved a standard which had been recongnised by Carlow's new theathre as it has performed there since its first season to enthusiastic audiences. Patchwork has a dedicated hard working team of volunteers who the group could not do without. The volunteers give up their time to help out with rehearsals, making props and costumes, assisting back stage at the shows and doing anything else that the group requires. We also have a 2 musicians and a lighting and sound technician that travels from travels from the UK when the shows are taking place in the theatre. All these volunteers work for nothing and Patchwork is very grateful to all those who take the time out to help but our shows together.
