8th Louth Slieve Foy

8th Louth Slieve Foy 1. The name of the Association is Gasóga na hÉireann or Scouting Ireland.
2.

Based in the Cooley Peninsula, we’re a dedicated volunteer group with Scouting Ireland, providing adventure, fun & life skills🏕️🥾
Come join the journey with us! Scouting Ireland is a voluntary, uniformed, non-formal educational movement
for young people. It is independent, non-political, open to all without
distinction of origin, race, creed or gender, in accordance with the purpose,
principle

s and method conceived by the Founder, Robert Baden-Powell and
as stated by the World Organisation of the Scout Movement.
3. The aim of Scouting Ireland is to encourage the physical, intellectual,
character, emotional, social, and spiritual development of young people so
that they may achieve their full potential and, as responsible citizens, to
improve society.
4. Scouting Ireland achieves its aim through a system of progressive selfeducation, known as the Scout Method, the principal elements of which are:
• Voluntary membership of a group which, guided by adults, is
increasingly self-governing in its successive age groups.
• Commitment to a code of living as expressed in the Promise & Law,
the meaning of which is expanded as the member grows towards
maturity.
• The provision of a wide range of attractive, constructive and
challenging activities, including opportunities for adventure and
exploration both indoors and outdoors.
• The provision of opportunities for leadership and responsibility.
• Learning by doing.
• Encouragement of activity in small groups.
• An award scheme, which encourages participation in its full range of
activities and provides recognition of individual and group
achievements.
• Symbolic Framework.

Best of Luck to all our own members sitting state exams this exam season!!🤩🤩 You’ve got this🙌

Wishing all our Scouts, Ventures, Rovers, and Scouters the best of luck with upcoming state exams and assessments! 📚✏️

A true Scout knows that getting lost is just an unexpected adventure. So if an exam question unfamiliar and is off the marked trail, stay calm, follow your bearings, and don’t pitch your tent in panic! ⭐️🥾

Trust your training, keep moving, and see where the trail takes you.

Remember our motto, “Be Prepared” …it isn’t about having all the answers; it’s about facing the challenge and doing your best with what you’ve got⚜️🤩

We’re incredibly proud to celebrate, a former member, Cal McDonagh on an extraordinary achievement🤩🤩

Cal has become the 8th Irish person to summit the 4th highest mountain on Earth, Lhotse, and the first person from Co. Louth to summit a 8000m peak👏🌍

From local hills working on hillwalking badges to one of the toughest mountains on Earth, this achievement is a reflection of the hard work and resilience he brings to everything he does.

A massive bravo Cal on this historic accomplishment - we can’t wait to see what challenge comes next. 👏🇮🇪⛰️

🚨 25th May Summit News: Congratulations to Cal McDonagh from Carlingford in Co. Louth who has reached the summit of Lhotse this morning with his Sherpa Dawa. His is only the 8th Irish summit of Lhotse (4th highest peak in the world) and he is the first from Louth to summit an 8000m peak. Well done Cal and the Summitclimb and Summittrek team.

🌟Happy National Volunteer Week! 🌟

This week, we want to take a moment to recognise the incredible people who make our Scout Group what it is our amazing Scouters and volunteers.

Week after week, they give time, energy, patience, and heart to create unforgettable experiences for our young people in our local communities. From muddy camps and days out, late-night planning meetings to teaching life skills, encouraging confidence, and being a steady source of support and fun they do it all, often behind the scenes and without expecting anything in return.

The impact they have reaches far beyond meetings and campsites. They help young people grow in confidence, build friendships, try new things, and believe in themselves. Each Scouter hopes the memories and lessons created will stay with them for life.

Scouting simply wouldn’t happen without their dedication, kindness, and commitment to our community. Thank you for every hour volunteered, every challenge tackled, every laugh shared, and every young person encouraged along the way.💚⚜️⛺️

On Monday Beavers learned about the parts of a tent. They learned about the flag and when we would use them and how to properly fold a flag. We then learned about the emergency services, how and when to phone them.
We also spoke about how important it is to know our full name and address with eircode. Beavers are tasked with learning their eircode for next week. Well done all 👏

Our Cubs had an amazing weekend in Crawfordsburn at the Louth Scout County Camp! 🌲

From woggle making and crate climbing to archery, orienteering, backwoods skills, team building, and the county Cub quiz plus a brilliant campfire to top it all off there was no shortage of adventure and excitement. We even had time for a wee ice cream treat!!🍦🍦

Lots of fun was had, plenty of new skills learned, and even more great memories made along the way. A weekend they won’t forget anytime soon! 🏕️🏕️
