Artist bio:

Paula Richards Hynes is an Irish mixed media artist whose work captures the ever-changing beauty and mood of the Irish landscape. Inspired by rolling fields, shifting skies, and the rich textures of the natural world, her paintings offer a fresh and expressive take on familiar surroundings.

Working intuitively, Paula builds each piece in layers, blending paint, mark-making, and texture to create depth and movement. Her process is guided as much by feeling as by observation, with memories of place and the subtle shifts of light and colour shaping her work.

There is a strong sense of atmosphere in her paintings, often evoking calm, reflection, and a quiet connection to the land. Rather than simply representing a scene, Paula’s work invites viewers to pause and experience the emotion of a place, something instantly recognisable to anyone familiar with Ireland’s landscape.

This year marks Paula’s third time participating in the charity exhibition, organised by the New Wave Wild Project, a cause she is proud to support through her work.

It is also a particularly meaningful year personally, as she celebrates her 60th birthday by setting herself the creative challenge of completing 60 paintings in her 60th year.

Based in Ireland, Paula continues to evolve her practice through experimentation and a deep commitment to creativity. Her work reflects both a love of the natural environment and a desire to share its beauty in a way that feels personal, immersive, and quietly powerful.

Artist statement and bio:

The inspiration behind it is the calming effect that the beach and sea can have on ones nervous system. To sit and watch the waves and hear them roll onto the stones or beach, is meditative and very restorative. Its a message of calm and peace. I want to bring the outside world inside a home, bring people a little closer to nature inside there homes.

I work as a photographer and sell my work at markets as well.

Artist bio:

Emily Thompson is a needle felting artist, whose aim is to create unique artworks which connects people to the beauty of the world around them. Using locally sourced Irish wool, which is washed and dyed, Emily meticulously layers the dyed wool to create images of the beautiful Irish landscape. She uses a needle felting tool, and the required technique, which consists of matting the woolen fibers together by slowly and repetitively pushing the fibers back and forth using the sharp barbed needle tool. Following this she uses both her sewing machine, and simple needle and thread to add further texture and detail to her works. She considers her dyed wool her ‘palette’ and felting needles her ‘paintbrush’.
