It seems lately we move from one priority to the next - so much so we forgot to post anything about the wonderful Spark launch last month. πŸ’₯

We had over 150 people turn out to celebrate the launch of our climate project that will enable us to create education opportunities and, hopefully, jobs for our community through the creation of a genuine cooperative. The Spark is funder by Pobal through the Community Climate Action Fund.

The launch was a huge team effort with the climate and community staff working hand in glove with our project partners to create a memorable evening at our new HQ.

Stick with us and see how this project grows over the coming months and years. Sign up for our newsletter via the Spark website - www.thespark.coop!

It was a pleasure to welcome a delegation from Sheffield United to Dalymount today to share the work we are doing on community-led climate action and learn from them about the incredible community work they do from Bramall Lane. πŸ”΄βš«πŸ€βšͺπŸ”΄

We have a lot to learn from clubs like Sheffield United, who have 60 people working in their Community Foundation doing everything from education to mental health supports, developing allotments with children to fighting cancer. Really inspiring stuff!

Thanks too to Gerry for giving us a tour - and for all the Bohs x Blades trivia - including that one of Bohs first international opponents was Sheffield United way back in 1903. We are looking forward to further collaborations and building on this 121 year old friendship!

🧭 What a great way to kick off our work for 2024 - a meeting of the Spark Steering Committee at our offices in Phibsborough.

πŸ—“οΈ 2024 is a big year for the Spark as we move from planning to implementation. This year we will be running community education programmes in bike maintenance and renewable energy, hosting a new climate action after-school programmes for kids, and opening a bike library and a library of things.

🚲 Discussions at today's meeting ranged from how to ensure those who would benefit most from these projects will have access to them, to how the cooperative membership structure should work.

It was great to have Business in the Community represented as an expert contributor.

πŸŽ‰ It is a pleasure to be working with such a wonderful team of people and organisations. We will be formally launching the Spark on Thursday, January 25. Keep an eye out for more information on the launch night early next week.

This afternoon, as a part of a project to address access to retrofits, which we are partnering on with Friends of the Earth, we met with Bohs members, the Community Credit Union, Codema, SEAI, Mitsubishi Electric, and Premier Irish Homes.

🏠We know current measures and existing supports to enhance energy efficiency of homes are inaccessible for many, thanks to FOE's research, Still Left Out in the Cold. This is unfair and we want to do what we can to support members.

⚽In September, Bohs teamed up with Friends of the Earth to begin. Over the last couple months, we have held a dialogue with members to understand their situations and experiences.

🀝The Solutions Meeting held today set about identifying practical and meaningful solutions, that we can collectively mobilise

For the last three months, MBA students from have been working on sustainability challenges posed by Bohs. It was great to head down to the campus this morning to hear groups pitches on zero waste matchday and ending single use plastics at the club. Lots of food for thought!

Thank you to all involved in putting the module together and good luck to the students with the rest of their modules! πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ–€β€οΈ
