Do you currently get the universal subsidy of €2.14 an hour through the National Childcare Scheme (NCS)? 👶

Since 31 August 2026, you may qualify for the income-assessed subsidy instead. This is because the income threshold for the income-assessed subsidy is increasing.

⬆️ From the end of August, you can earn up to €68,000 and qualify (the threshold was previously €60,000).

This means you may be able to get a higher childcare subsidy than you currently receive.

Are you a childminder or parent? Our online childminding focus groups will provide an opportunity for childminders and parents to share their views and experiences.
The Department of Children, Disability and Equality (DCDE) is inviting childminders and parents to share their experiences and perspectives on the implementation of the new childminding regulations. Feedback gathered through these focus groups will help inform the ongoing review of the regulations and shape future developments in the childminding sector. This is an opportunity to discuss how the regulations are working in practice, the supports available to childminders, any challenges or barriers to registration and compliance, and suggestions for how the system could be improved to better meet the needs of childminders, children and families.

Is your child starting junior infants this September?

The primary school day lasts 5 hours and 40 minutes, but schools can reduce this by an hour for children in:

🧒 Junior infants
👧 Senior infants
👦 First class

Your child’s teacher will teach them all subjects in the curriculum. And, depending on your child, they might get extra support from a language support teacher or a special education teacher.

🗓️ In general, the school year starts sometime during the week of 1 September.
