Armada/Galleón Evening - ****Reminder****

Full steam ahead now for The Armada/Galleón Evening - tomorrow Friday 21st August in Mullachdubh Community Centre/Seanscoil.
8pm-9pm

This is an open invitation to local and neighbouring communities.

On the Big Screen - The evening begins, at 8pm, with a video of some of the most spectacular images and footage recorded during the historical visit of El Galleón Andalucía to Mullaghderg Bay last month.
You will really want to see this because it looks sensational on the big screen.

This will be followed by contributions from some of our local historians who will provide hugely interesting information about the historic context of the visit of the Galleón on that memorable day 14th July 2026.

If you have any questions about the Armada ship lying underneath Mullaghderg Bay, this is your chance to get some answers.

Some memorabilia and specially commissioned artwork will be on display and Team Leader John Joe McBride will also be on hand to provide an update on some exciting plans for the future.

If you were in Mullaghderg for the Galleón visit, or if you missed it and would like to know more about it, don't miss this special event - tomorrow evening Friday 21st August, 8pm -9pm.

Donations at the door will go towards the upkeep of the Mullachdubh Community Centre/Seanscoil.

Diary Date

Keep next Friday 21st August free for a special Armada evening in Mullachdubh Community Centre/Seanscoil.

We will host an evening of reflections and memories about the recent visit of El Galleón Andalucía to Mullaghderg Bay.

The evening will begin with a short video of the stunning scenes along our local coastline on that memorable July day.
This will be followed by some insights into our Armada history from some of our local historians. We will also hear about the personal experiences of some of the local people who witnessed the Galleon visit, from aboard the ship and from along the coastline.

We extend an open invitation to people from neighbouring communities and beyond to join us for an evening of history, heritage, conversation, and craic.

Friday 21st August 2026, 8pm.
All donations on the night will go towards the maintenance and running costs of our greatly valued Community Centre/Seanscoil, where we plan to display some Armada/Galleón memorabilia in the future.

🇮🇪🇪🇸 A VERY SPECIAL UPDATE FROM MULLAGHDUFF 🇪🇸🇮🇪

€2,227 RAISED — THANK YOU! ❤️

When we began our fundraising appeal to help make the historic visit of El Galeón Andalucía to Mullaghderg Bay possible, we never imagined the incredible response we would receive.

Thanks to the generosity of our wonderful supporters, we have raised an amazing:

€2,227.00! 🎉👏

We have absolutely smashed our original fundraising target, and we cannot thank everyone enough for your kindness, generosity and encouragement.

But now, something very exciting is beginning...

🎨 THE MULLAGHDERG HERITAGE MURAL PROJECT

The unforgettable visit of El Galeón Andalucía in 2026 has inspired us to look further back — to 1588, when the Spanish Armada came to these shores and a Spanish Armada vessel was lost near Mullaghderg.

We are now exploring the possibility of creating a permanent heritage mural on the exterior of the old Mullaghduff School, now our Community Centre.

What makes this location so special is that it is not simply a building.

It was once a school where generations of local children learned, and today it remains a centre of our community — situated less than a mile from the coastline and the Spanish Rock associated with this extraordinary chapter of our history.

🌊 THE VISION

The proposed mural would tell the story across generations:

1588 — The Spanish Armada
⬇️
Mullaghderg — Our Coast & Our History
⬇️
2026 — The Return of El Galeón Andalucía
⬇️
The Future — Educating Our Children & Visitors

We want this to be much more than a painting.

We want it to become a permanent outdoor classroom and heritage landmark, helping local children, future generations and visitors understand the remarkable history that happened here.

☀️ BY DAY...

A vibrant historical mural celebrating the Armada, Mullaghderg, the sea and the extraordinary return of El Galeón Andalucía in 2026.

🌙 AND BY NIGHT...

We have even imagined the mural illuminated by warm solar-powered spotlights, allowing this important piece of our heritage to remain visible after dark — a gentle beacon celebrating our history and community.

The accompanying images are concept illustrations showing what the mural could look like.

🏛️ NOW WE WANT TO HEAR FROM OUR COMMUNITY

We are holding an OPEN COMMUNITY MEETING to present the project, show the proposed mural designs on a large screen and discuss the possibility of bringing this vision to life.

📅 Friday 21st August 2026
🕗 8.00pm
📍 Mullaghduff Old School / Community Centre

We are delighted to welcome local dignitaries and community representatives, including Pat the Cope Gallagher, Fr Nigel and Fr Brian, alongside members of our local community.

☕ There will be tea, coffee and lovely local baking on the night.

❤️ EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

There will also be a voluntary bucket collection at the door, with all proceeds going towards the Mullaghduff Old School / Community Centre.

Most importantly, this is your community, and we want everyone to have the opportunity to see the proposal, share their thoughts and have their say.

---

🇮🇪🇪🇸 ONE COMMUNITY • ONE STORY • FOUR CENTURIES OF HISTORY 🇪🇸🇮🇪

From the Armada of 1588, to the arrival of El Galeón Andalucía in 2026, we have an extraordinary story to tell.

Let's make sure that story is not forgotten.

Thank you once again to everyone who supported our Andalucía fundraising campaign.

You helped make the 2026 visit possible.

And perhaps, together, we can now create something that will remain in Mullaghderg for generations to come. ❤️

Go raibh míle maith agaibh — thank you all so very much!
