Well, the weather was on our side today at the Clean Coasts showcase. Auriel Robinson, the new clean coasts officer for Donegal, gave a very interesting presentation on marine biodiversity and also introduced us to the Think Before You Flush (TBYF) and the Think Before You Pour (TBYP) initiatives from Uisce Éireann Irish Water. We then did a thorough clean up of Ladies Bay.

***Keep the Momentum Going for Buncrana's Environment!***

Following a busy spring of community clean-ups, and environmental stewardship projects with the YSI students in Scoil Mhuire, and there is another great opportunity to get involved and make a difference.

Join Buncrana Tidy Towns at Ladies Bay on Saturday 13th June at 10:30am for a morning of learning, community action, and coastal care.

The tidy towns initiative team will welcome Auriel Robinson, Clean Coasts Regional Officer for County Donegal, who will deliver a short talk on coastal and marine biodiversity and discuss the important "Think Before You Flush" and "Think Before You Pour" campaigns, delivered in partnership with Uisce Éireann.

Following the talk, volunteers will take part in a community beach clean at Ladies Bay.

Everyone is welcome – adults, children, families, community groups, and anyone interested in protecting our rivers, coastline, wildlife, and local environment.

This is also a wonderful opportunity to meet Auriel, who recently took up her role as Regional Officer for Donegal, and to learn more about the work of Clean Coasts and how you can get involved.

Let's continue working together from stream to shore for a cleaner, healthier Buncrana and surrounding coastline.

Don't forget to send me your unmown lawn photos. Anyone fancy taking it a bit further and letting it bloom for June????

HOLD..... HOLD... DON'T MOW YET!!!!!
Keep your lawn, don't mow. We know it looks unkempt. We know it's tough when all your neighbours have their robots out. But, look at the flowers, do they have insects? Are there plants you never noticed before? Are there more birds? Don't forget to send me your photos to be in with a chance to win a prize, for no mow May. Here's my lawn....

From today, the judges will be moving around the country, going from town to town, making notes and comparisons. Let's be our best selves and do a little clean every day.
Cast a critical eye on your street every morning. Is there glass, weeds, rubbish, cigarette butts, grit or out of date signs that could be cleaned away?
Good luck Buncrana!!!!

What's On Buncrana

Well Buncrana, it's done! The entry for the 2026 TidyTowns Ireland competition has been submitted. We now nervously await the judges secret visits, which will begin within the next few weeks. We just have a few little favours to ask, our volunteers are flat out getting the town ready, but, we can't do it alone. So we can put our best foot forward, here are a few ideas of how you can help :

Homeowners & businesses: cast a critical eye on your presentation. W**d, sweep, or give your fence, wall or shopfront a fresh lick of paint.

Brighten it up: Add window boxes or hanging baskets, preferably with pollinator friendly plants. If there are already planters near where you are, water it on dry days.

Keep paths and public areas clear: Move excess signs off footpaths. Install cigarette butt bins for your customers to use. Sweep up broken glass.

💕Adopt a spot: Pick an area to look after.

Out walking? Pull a few weeds or pick up litter as you go. Dog owners, please be mindful and pick up after your dog. We're so lucky to have so many fantastic walks, let's keep them nice for everybody.

Bottle bank full? Hold onto your recycling and pop back another day.

Try to look at the streets with fresh eyes, if you were a visitor to the town, what would you see on the streets? What would you notice first? How does the town welcome newcomers?

It's now in your hands. Good luck Buncrana, we're with you all the way. Fingers crossed for another gold medal, or more.....

Well????? How did ye all get on? How did your garden grow? Any new flowers you didn't know were there? Any interesting insects? Please send a photo. It's not a photography competition, so one from your phone will do.
Winner will be announced in June, give you all time to send the photos in. A meeting for collection of the prize will be arranged after that. We're excited to see the results.
