Tuesday, 2nd June marked a hugely significant milestone in the journey towards a new Community Centre as we officially turned the sod on this exciting project.
This achievement is the result of years of dedication, perseverance, and hard work by our long-serving committee, whose commitment to the vision of a community centre for Kilcloon has brought us to this moment. We extend our sincere thanks to every committee member, past and present, who has played a role in getting the project to this stage.
We were delighted to be joined for the occasion by Councillors Caroline O'Reilly and Maria Murphy, along with Meath Helen McEntee, Gillian Toole and Thomas Byrne and the Minister for Rural and Community Development Dara Calleary. Their support and presence on the day were greatly appreciated as we celebrated the beginning of construction.
The turning of the sod represents far more than the start of building works—it marks the beginning of a new chapter for Kilcloon. The community centre will provide a welcoming space for people of all ages, supporting community activities, events, recreation, and connection for generations to come.

These photos capture a very special morning for Kilcloon.

Some members of the committee met with the construction team on site on Thursday morning, following the commencement of work on the new Kilcloon Community Centre earlier in the week.

There was a real sense of pride as this long-awaited project continues to take shape. After years of planning, dedication, and overcoming obstacles, it’s incredible to see the vision becoming a reality.

This centre has been a shared goal for so long, and now the journey from plans to bricks and mortar is well underway. We’re so excited to watch it grow in the months ahead.

Delighted to announce:
Construction will commence on the Kilcloon Community Centre on Monday 23rd March.
Please be mindful of additional Construction traffic in the area for the duration of 12 months. Particular consideration is given to children and parents walking to and from schools and playground. The contractor has been made aware of our safety concerns in this regard and we must all play our part in public safety on the roads and footpaths. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. Great news for Kilcloon!
The contract for the new Kilcloon Community Centre, a project valued at approximately €2.3 million has now been officially signed.
The contract has been awarded to CF Hoey Construction, with McKevitt King Architects leading the design.
Construction is expected to commence in the near future, bringing the community one step closer to a modern space for local groups, activities and events.
A very exciting development for Kilcloon and the wider community.

Project Update Feb 2026

Kilcloon Community Centre Committee are pleased to announce that the construction phase for our new Community Centre will commence shortly.
​Following the completion of the procurement process the successful contractor has been selected and final discussions are taking place to arrange their appointment. We expect this to be finalised in the next few weeks and a commencement date agreed.

We are holding a public meeting on Thursday 26 February at 8pm in the Parish Centre to give an update. All are welcome

We’re delighted to share some great news for Kilcloon 🎉

The Department of Rural and Community Development has approved a grant to support the building of our new Community Centre. This means the funding is now in place, and we’re expecting construction to begin in the near future.

This is a hugely important milestone for our community, and we can’t wait to see the project move from plans to reality. We’ll keep everyone updated as final details are confirmed.
