As the new school year gets closer, from our littlest Junior Infants taking their very first steps into school, right through primary, secondary, 6th year & on to university or college, it is an exciting time, but for many families it also brings very real financial pressure. 💙🎒📚

Uniforms, shoes, books, transport, technology & everyday school costs quickly add up. In 2025 alone, SVP received nearly 6,000 requests for education support, each one representing a child, young person or family facing barriers to education.

Every child & young person deserves the opportunity to learn, participate & begin the year with dignity, confidence & the same opportunities as their peers. 💙

In 2025, a total of 3,157 textile items were brought in for repair at one of the 168 Repair Cafés located across eight EU countries. These Repair Cafés log their activities in the ‘Repair Monitor’, an online tool developed by the Repair Café International Foundation.

Of the items brought in, 3,000 were successfully repaired, corresponding to a repair success rate of 95%.

Trousers and pants, as well as coats and jackets, were the most frequently brought in items, together accounting for 45% of all textile products repaired in 2025.

In addition to recording the type of product and repair outcome, the Repair Monitor also logs the difficulty of each repair. Analysis of these data shows that the proportion of repairs classified as ‘(rather) difficult’ has increased over time.

👚 👟 👕 Textiles are everywhere and shape our daily lives. However, their production, use and after use processing cause many environmental and climate pressures.

💡 Reducing such pressures requires a shift towards a more circular and sustainable textiles system of production and consumption with extended product use, increased reuse, repair and more efficient recycling.

As we approach 600 followers, we just want to say a huge thank you for the incredible support shown to SVP Bray. 💙

It is the generosity & care behind what is donated, the work that goes into sorting, selecting & preparing everything for the shop floor & giving quality items another life while offering value, choice, sustainability & dignity to everyone who comes through our doors. ♻️

Our staff are amazing every single day & our wonderful volunteers give their time, energy, & kindness so generously. Then there are the countless people who stop to chat, even briefly, say thank you, share an idea, tell us a story or give such wonderful feedback about the store, the social media, the team & what we are doing.💙
