Lakelands Scout County held its first County Camp in over 8 years last weekend. What a gathering of the county?!
We had over 250 beavers, cubs, scouts, ventures, Rovers and scouters on site, with 6 of the 7 groups of county represented.
Thankfully the weather was amazing and this added to the electric atmosphere of this LONG over due gathering of the Legends of Lakelands!
We opened the ceremony and held a youth led and completely run Table quiz, Followed by an amazing day of Portlick Scout Campsite finest activities, between this an incredible young member of Mullingar Scouts - 1st/10th WH was presented by Eoin the Chief Scout with a Silver Honour award, the first ever awarded in Lakelands.
Phillip Gillen entertained the masses with some seriously great games and craic, followed by the Campfire Chief and legend Ger Hennessey, Scouters and youth members really got into this and there was some really fun skits.
Our Venture Scouts held a Darkness in to Light Kayak raising over €1400 for the charity!
To top all the activities off our youth reps held a very well attended youth Forum on Sunday morning before break of camp!
There was a dedicated Sensory room, and a Heritage Room displaying the history of our groups to support the Legends of Lakelands also.
Thanks goes to all the incredible scouters and parents who supported the weekend but especially to those who worked endlessly throughout the weekend ensuring site safety and logistics were achieved, most of the volunteers involved in these roles were also double jobbing as Scouters on their own Group sites so the dedication given to ensure County Camp was a success is greatly appreciated.
It was great to chat with John Butler from Portlick Scout Campsite after the event and to hear him praise the youth of our county. We are so fortunate to have the factility and we are greatful to John, Phillip and all the campsite team for all the support shown to us over the weekend.
Heres to many more future county camps in Lakelands.
