Bantry Hospice Project

Bantry Hospice Project Supporting hospice units at Bantry hospital and the West Cork Palliative Care team, in their work all over W Cork.

Hardship fund and extra funds for night nurse and home sitting services available. The Bantry Hospice Project was formed with the intention of providing the capital expenditure necessary to put in place palliative care beds within the grounds of Bantry Hospital. These units, two, are now up and running with state of the art equipment. The objective of the committee is that the units will consist o

f a large bedroom en-suite with a lounge/kitchen area for family members. The unit will add to the existing complement of beds within the Bantry Hospital facility and when the relevant beds are unoccupied for palliative care they can be used by the management of the hospital for other patients. This model of palliative care is already working very successfully in a number of other smaller hospitals in the Cork County. This project will have the full support of Marymount Hospice and they will provide every assistance where possible, including training and the use of the existing palliative care team already in place in West Cork. The Irish Hospice Foundation are also supporting the Project. Established to build hospice rooms at Bantry Hospital through co operation with Bantry Hospital, Marymount Hospice and the West Cork Palliative Care team. We are now fundraising to support Marymount Hospice's home care team, the West Cork Palliative Care team, based in Bantry hospital in any way we can. The Bantry Hospice Project is made up of a committee consisting of the following people:

To establish these rooms is going to cost €270,000 approx so we have alot of work to do. Hopefully you might consider helping out or even organising some fundraiser for the hospice project.

Another hugely successful weekend of Golf at our Annual Bantry Hospice Golf Classic. We would like to say a huge thank you to Bantry Bay Golf Club to every team who entered to the businesses who supported us and to our wonderful committee and of course our Sponsor Sandoz.

Thanks to Captain Willie De La Cour Ladies Captain Anne Foley and Joe Keane of Sandoz and Bantry Hospice Committee for presenting the prizes to the teams.

A very special thank you to Ester Kearns, who recently celebrated her 90th birthday and kindly chose to donate all the proceeds from her celebrations to Bantry Hospice.

As a result of Ester’s generosity, together with the support of her family, friends, and neighbours, an incredible €1,000 was raised for Bantry Hospice.

Ester has long been a wonderful supporter of Bantry Hospice and is truly a remarkable individual. On behalf of everyone at Bantry Hospice, we would like to sincerely thank Ester for selecting Bantry Hospice as her chosen charity and wish her a very happy 90th birthday.
