BRACE Community Response

BRACE Community Response Ballymun Recovery Addiction Community Education, (BRACEi), s a Community Response to people experiencing difficulties with Drug and Alcohol use.
(1)

Our training centre offers a range of accreditted courses to empower people and communities. The Ballymun Youth Action Project (BYAP) is a community response to drug and alcohol misuse. As a response that has come from within the community of Ballymun, we strive to reduce the negative impact of drug and alcohol use on the lives of individuals and families, and on this community. We seek to do this

through
* Working with individuals who are using, reducing, or who have stopped using drugs and/or alcohol;
* Supporting families impacted by drug and alcohol issues;
* Supporting the community in their work of prevention and intervention as responses to drug and alcohol issues;
* And building capacity through training and research. We believe
* That individuals with addictions can and do recover;
* The families of those affected by addiction do not have to cope alone;
* That the community can be an effective place to recover. And our ethos is rooted in
* Valuing individuality;
* Valuing the capacity of individuals, families and communities.

Careers EDGE, focus on empowering participants to move forward at a pace that works for them, while building towards sustainable and meaningful progression.
To ensure participants can engage fully with the programme and gain maximum benefit from the experience, individuals should be in stable recovery and actively engaging with a support service.

Vicarious trauma is the profound shift in worldview that occurs when social care workers continuously absorb the traumatic stories of their clients. Because a vast majority of individuals in substance abuse treatment have comorbid histories of trauma, social care workers face a uniquely high risk of experiencing emotional, cognitive, and behavioral changes. To learn more and explore protective factors on this high value course, contact Naomi.

Many thanks to Mark and the bike team in for kindly donating a super Cube roadbike to one of our members. James is over the moon with the new bike and now has the opportunity to cycle when ever and where ever he decides. Best wishes and stay safe with your new bike James.

Its been a real privelege to partner up with the Irish Prison Service and to facilitate the Boxing Clever programme in The Midlands prsion and the Dochas Centre. Today the lads in the Midlands graduated and it was powerful to witness their growth through allowing themselves to be vulnerable in front of others, facing and tackling challenges, and staying focused to see it through to the end. Heart warming voluntary testamonials with ripples of well earned personal pride shared by each participant. As a pilot, we look forward to examining the data, hearing the results and hope we have the opportunity to collaborate again in the near future.
