A sincere thank you to everyone who joined us at the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland for the launch of Barretstown’s next chapter and the establishment of Ireland’s first Psychosocial Clinical Research Hub.

We were honoured to welcome Minister for Health Jennifer Carroll MacNeill TD, alongside healthcare leaders, researchers and valued partners, as we shared our ambition to make psychosocial care a standard part of treatment for children and young people affected by cancer and other serious illness.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who has supported Barretstown over the past 32 years and continues to help make this ambition possible.

We look forward to the next chapter and to the impact we can achieve together.

A sincere thank you to everyone who joined us at the RDS for a very special evening celebrating The Magic of Barretstown and the Science Behind It: Our Next Chapter.

We were honoured to welcome Former President Michael D. Higgins, our Patron Sabina Higgins, Minister Martin Heydon, HE Kara Owen and Ray D’Arcy. We were also delighted to be joined by our Medical Patron, Professor Owen Smith, and Medical Director, Dr Peter McCarthy, alongside our supporters, partners, colleagues and friends.

The evening marked an incredible milestone for Barretstown as we celebrated reaching 175,000 children, young people and their families since we were founded by Paul Newman in 1994.

It was particularly special to have Ciara Hoolahan, one of our very first campers, and Hayleigh Price, our 175,000th camper, there to mark this moment with us.

Our Youth Board, led by Chair Ava Wallace and Darren Maher, also unveiled our new identity, marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for Barretstown.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Barretstown over the past 32 years and continues to help us build a future where psychosocial care is a standard part of treatment for children and young people affected by cancer and other serious illnesses across Ireland.

We are incredibly grateful for your continued support.

“Hospital treats the illness, but Barretstown treats the child.” - Paul Newman, Barretstown Founder

For over 32 years, this belief has been at the heart of everything we do.

Barretstown provides psychosocial care for young people and families affected by cancer and other serious illness, helping them rebuild confidence, connection, resilience and hope.

In 1994, Barretstown welcomed 124 campers.

One hundred and twenty-four children came through our iconic gates and discovered that illness did not define them. That they were capable of more than they had been told. That they were not alone.

Today, 32 years on, we celebrate our 175,000th camper.

175,000 children, young people and their families’ whose lives have been changed by the magic and science of Barretstown.

Today, we’re announcing an exciting new chapter for Barretstown.

For 32 years, Barretstown has been known for creating magic through our Residential camps and outreach programmes. Since 1994 our programmes have reached over 175,000 children, young people and their families.

But behind that magic was always science. In the medical world what we do has a more formal name: Psychosocial care. We want it to become the standard for every child and young person living with cancer and other serious illness in Ireland.

Building on our existing programmes in our camps and in hospitals, schools and communities across Ireland, we are establishing a new Psychosocial Clinical Research Hub—the first of its kind in Ireland—and a Training Centre of Excellence.
