Just 48 hours earlier, Hayleigh had been birthday toy shopping with her identical twin sister, Hannah.

Then doctors found a mass on both of her kidneys.

Hayleigh was diagnosed with kidney cancer, bilateral Wilms tumours. Six weeks of chemotherapy were followed by a week of rest, then another six weeks of chemotherapy and surgery on both kidneys.

While her brother and sister were getting ready for school, Hayleigh was facing months of treatment.

For families like Hayleigh’s, Barretstown offers a place to feel joy, laugh, have fun and simply be together again, even while treatment continues.

The camp offered a warm and supportive space for families dealing with the loss of a parent to cancer — somewhere they could spend quality time together, share their experiences and find ways to look to the journey ahead with resilience and hope.

There is so much more to Hayleigh than childhood cancer.

After watching cancer and treatment take so much from their little girl, Hayleigh’s family watched her go ziplining, climb the climbing wall and create masterpieces in the arts room.

They watched her have adventures again.

At Barretstown, Hayleigh, her twin sister Hannah and big brother Jack found a place where they could simply be themselves. Where they could laugh, have fun and try new things together.

We’d like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took part in the second Homevalue Annual Golf Classic, in aid of Barretstown. This amazing fundraiser raised an incredible total of €50,000.

We are immensely grateful to everyone at Homevalue, who have gone above and beyond in their support of Barretstown. Your continued support, from fundraising to volunteering and raising awareness, allows us to continue providing psychosocial care through our therapeutic camps and programmes for children and young people affected by cancer and other serious illness. 💚
