The race is chip-timed and AAI certified measured. Runners and Walkers of all abilities are welcome! Every year in July the town of Headford plays host to the Headford 8k Charity Road Race. Now in its 16th year the race continues to grow in popularity and last year saw over 200 participants from all over the country taking part. All the proceeds from the race go to charities supporting people with
intellectual disabilities. The race has raised over €50,000 since it started and provides valuable additional funds to support people with disabilities in their own communities such as short breaks, respite and in-home supports. The Headford8k Road Race are delighted to be able to give something back to the disability community and support services for people with Intellectual Disabilities and their families. At the recent launch of the 2022 race, Eamon Walsh, race organiser commented – “It’s a very special event, and we are delighted to be able to hold the event this year after a two-year break. We are looking forward to welcoming back athletes of all ages and capabilities who support our event including all the club runners - it’s usually quite competitive! I think it’s a combination of the lovely atmosphere of the race both for participants and spectators and the fact that every penny of the proceeds goes back to the community, supporting people with intellectual disabilities. It’s also a lovely event for the town and people really enjoy it! We couldn’t do it without their support and we are very grateful for their continued support and of course our sponsors. Roll on 9th July!”
It’s a great local competitive road race – don’t miss it!
