A big thank you to everyone who took the time to help with the litter pick today. Your efforts are greatly appreciated, and the area is looking absolutely immaculate.

If anyone needs bags picked up, please let me know.

Don’t forget—everyone is welcome to the Celtic Furrow at 2pm for tea, treats, and music from local musicians. We’ll also be celebrating being part of the new Joyce Country & Western Lakes Geopark.

Hope to see you there.

Today, the Joyce Country and Western Lakes (JCWL) Geopark received its UNESCO Global Geopark accolade, following its ratification at the UNESCO executive board meeting in Paris. It becomes the first UNESCO Global Geopark in Connacht, located across north County Galway, south-west County Mayo inclusive of the Gaeltacht, and the fifth on the Island of Ireland. Exclusively, the JCWL UNESCO Geopark includes the only Gaeltacht region in a UNESCO site on the island of Ireland and globally.

This high-profile international badge of honour recognises the JCWL Geopark’s outstanding natural beauty, unique culture, rich heritage, Irish Language, progressive and strong community spirit along with its inspired people. Embracing new opportunities also forms part of the agenda especially those which complement the sustained developmental efforts of people and their communities in order to achieve the coveted UNESCO status for the region.

The accolade recognises the outstanding work of its 20 local communities, dedicated staff and partner agencies Údarás na Gaeltachta, Geological Survey Ireland, Mayo County Council and Galway County Council, a community representative group JCWL GeoEnterprise and a local development co-op Comharchumann Dhúiche Sheoigheach Teo. Other significant contributors include Fáilte Ireland, National Parks and Wildlife Service, Coillte and Inland Fisheries Ireland.

St. Carlo Acutis – Rosary & Eucharist

✝️ Make the Sign of the Cross

Next weekend, a First-Class Relic of St. Carlo Acutis will be on display in our parish churches:

• Saturday, Feb 21st – After 7:30pm Mass, St. Mary’s Church, Carnacon
• Sunday, Feb 22nd – After 10am Mass, Killawalla
• Sunday, Feb 22nd – After 11am Mass, Ballintubber Abbey

There will be an opportunity for veneration and blessing with the relic after each Mass. All are welcome. We especially encourage young people and children to come, as Carlo was just 15 years old when he died of leukemia in 2006. He is a powerful modern role model for our youth.

Carlo had a profound love for the Eucharist. He attended daily Mass, spent time in Adoration, and believed Jesus was truly present — not a symbol, but real and alive. He said:
“Jesus waits for you in the Eucharist, in our tabernacles and on the Altars at every Mass.”

He also prayed the Rosary every day, calling it “the shortest ladder to heaven” and “a powerful tool to fight evil, second only to the Eucharist.” He had a deep devotion to Our Lady of Pompei.

St. Carlo Acutis, pray for us and for our youth.

Let us return to the Rosary. Pray it daily. Spend time in Adoration. These simple acts of faith matter — especially in a world grown cold. 🙏
