ECHOES OF THE PAST IN COUNTY DOWN!

It’s been some time since the wheels of industry turned at Annalong, but this picturesque corn mill stands beside the harbour as a reminder of an age when agriculture and the import/export business thrived in the small village. Built in the early 1800s, it was once a hive of activity with generations of local farmers bringing sacks of their oats here to be milled into oatmeal.

The mill has been restored now but still retains many of its original features, the grain drying kiln, three pairs of millstones and this mighty 15 ft waterwheel for example. There's a multi-media exhibition where you can experience local life in times gone by, meet the miller and follow the progress of the oats through the milling process. You can also learn all about the famous stonemen of Mourne and the schooners that left the harbour carrying prized Mourne granite to help build the industrial cities of Britain. 🥰
