Today we had an amazing time at St Hugh’s National School with our Bogs Project 🌱

We started by explaining what bogs are with a short presentation, and then the fun really began!
The children created their own bogs using brownies, green jelly, biscuits, sweets, chocolate whipped cream and white whipped cream 🍫🍬

After that, we gave them paper crowns that we had made, so they could become the kings and queens of the bogs 👑
It was such a fun and creative experience, and the children were absolutely fantastic!

Why Bogs Are Amazing 🌍

Bogs are incredibly important for our planet. Even though they are very low in nutrients, they support huge biodiversity. Many plants and fungi have adapted to live and thrive there.

Some plants, like the pitcher plant, are even carnivorous! They trap and digest insects to get the nutrients they need.
Many insects and animals can only be found in bogs, or choose to live there because they provide food and shelter.

Peat is also a natural carbon store. It keeps large amounts of carbon locked in the ground, preventing it from entering the atmosphere and helping to fight climate change 🌍💚
