Ballaghaderreen Community Art Group Ballaghaderreen Community Art Group was established at the end of 2011, as a volunteer group of people dedicated to doing art work together.

The Community Art Group Ballaghaderreen is self-supporting, with low costs for participants. The group aims to encourage the local community to participate in the arts; to welcome all levels of expertise; to provide an environment for people to express themselves and progress their talents, each at their own pace, and above all, to experiment and have fun! We do not judge each others work, but give advice to each other and help each other to bring out the best in ourselves and to present what we have made in the best possible way. The group is open for and accessible to all adults. The group meets every Monday morning, apart from school holidays, in the Ozanam Centre. Almost half of the time we have a tutor, sponsored by Roscommon VEC, now called Galway Roscommon Education and Training Board.

The Local Artists Exhibition was a great success.

There was a great turnout at the opening on Friday 31 July in Phoenix Youth Centre, with over 60 visitors.

The official opening was performed by local TD Claire Kerrane and the music of the Ukedorys contributed to the festive atmosphere. Most of the 26 artists were present, so there was ample opportunity to discuss their work. The feedback from the visitors was very enthusiastic and the first sales were agreed, with lively exchanges between artists and buyers.

Over the duration of the festival more than 400 people have visited the exhibition, twice as much as the two years before.

A lot of them came of course from Ballaghaderreen and surroundings, but also from the rest of Roscommon and from counties Dublin, Carlow, Galway, Leitrim, Longford, Louth, Mayo, Sligo and Waterford. Even from England, France, Germany, Spain, Scotland and from the US and Australia.

Visitors really took time to look at the art and were genuinely impressed by the quality and variety of the works. Some came back a second time.

35 of the 120 art works were sold.

The exhibition, part of the fourth edition of the Ballaghaderreen Arts Festival, was organised by Community Art Group Ballaghaderreen.

Thank you to everybody who came to the opening of this year's art exhibition.
