'A High Class School - Loreto Convent Balbriggan 1857- 2025' by David Sorensen Bracken Court Hotel on Wednesday 26th August at 8pm. Adm €5. Members free. All welcome.
The talk will also include some postcards - see attached poster.
If you know any past pupils of Loreto please let them know as it looks like a very interesting talk. Loreto Convent has long been a landmark in the town, since its foundation in 1857 it has attracted students not just from the locality but from all over the world. The building which became its kernel and nerve centre for over 120 years can trace its origin back to the development of Balbriggan as an industrial town. This presentation looks at the building Gracefield House, the struggle to get the school up and running, the many challenges it faced and successes it enjoyed. It examines aspects of the development of the school from 'free but dilapidated building' catering for 12 girls, to the current state of the art school with 1,288 students.
