Week 3 of the Youth Sewing Group 🧵

This week the young women are finishing off the patterns for their outfits and getting ready to start bringing their designs together.

Great to see them enjoying the sewing and getting stuck into it each week.

BTP was delighted to welcome Sandra and Mary, adolescent counsellors from the Traveller Counselling Service, who joined us this week to speak with participants about mental health and wellbeing.

This was also the second week of our QQI Level 5 Understanding Mental Health Through Copper Art course. Participants, along with members of the BTP Primary Health Care team, had the opportunity to take part in the talk, share experiences and have open conversations around mental health.

It was a really valuable session, bringing together mental health support, lived experience and a creative approach to wellbeing. A big thank you to Sandra and Mary for taking the time to join us and to everyone who took part. ❤️

Balbriggan Travellers Project were delighted to welcome 9 participants to the first day of our QQI Level 5 Understanding Mental Health Through Copper Art course funded through the HSE thanks to Doreen Carpenter Mental health coordinator for and with Travellers.

The group is made up of mixed ages and genders, and everyone is looking forward to learning more about mental health while developing copper art skills as a positive outlet for mental health and wellbeing.

We're delighted to have Martin McDonagh, currently the only Traveller copper artist, facilitating the copper art element of the course and sharing his skills and experience.

Tomorrow, participants will meet Michael Naughton from the ETB, who will deliver the mental health aspect of the programme.

We wish everyone the very best over the coming weeks.
