WEEK 3 OF THE BLACKWATER PEACE ADVOCATES PROGRAMME!

We had a brilliant, jam-packed session this week as our young people officially started filling out their workbooks, gathering important evidence toward their OCN Level 2 Conflict Resolution and Leadership qualification. 📝💼

Our discussions took us on a massive journey today. We explored all different levels and types of conflict, covering everything from:

🍕 Internal micro-conflicts: "Can I have that last piece of cake?"
🌍 International conflicts: Deep and thoughtful conversations regarding the ongoing wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.

To bring some of these concepts to life, we decided to stir up a little friendly, simulated group conflict! We split the group into two teams and faced off in some highly competitive games like Human Tic-Tac-Toe, My Chair, and All Change! 🏃‍♂️💨

Of course, we couldn't finish the session without winding down, so we made sure to leave plenty of time for tea, treats, and a good old chat. ☕✨

Super proud of the brilliant answers and great maturity shown by everyone this week. Roll on Week 4!

NIGHT 2 OF THE BLACKWATER PEACE ADVOCATES PROGRAMME!

We had another fantastic evening bringing together our brilliant young people from North Monaghan and South Tyrone. Here’s a little look at what we got up to:

🍪 The Great Debate: We kicked things off by chatting about sweet vs. savoury. While savoury took the crown for most, brownies emerged as a major crowd favourite!

⏱️ The 2-Minute Post-it Race: Things got competitive! We challenged the group to a fast-paced race to brainstorm words they associate with conflict.

💡 Big Learning Moments: We dived a bit deeper tonight and explored some fascinating concepts—including the realisation that it actually only takes one person for a conflict to occur, and that international conflict doesn't always have to result in war.

🎮 Game Time: It wasn't all serious discussion, though! We had brilliant fun playing 'Empires' and 'Mafia', which definitely brought out everyone's strategic and competitive sides.

🧁 A Huge Thank You: A massive shoutout to the wonderful mummy who sent in the delicious homemade scones! They were the perfect sweet treat to accompany our teatime break.

We are so proud of how everyone is engaging and sharing their ideas. Bring on week 3! ✌️🕊️

☕ COMMUNITY HERITAGE COFFEE MORNING IN ST JAMES’ CHURCH, AUGHNACLOY ☕

Join us on Saturday 30th May for a community heritage coffee morning focused on the future preservation and restoration of St James’ Church.

Built in 1736, St James’ has stood at the heart of Aughnacloy since the town’s formation nearly 300 years ago.

As part of our developing heritage focused plans, we want to hear from you. This is an opportunity for the wider community to tour our historic church, view heritage displays led by Aughnacloy Past and Present / Stephen Singleton, share your own artefacts, photographs, memories and ideas, and help shape how the story of St James’ Church and Aughnacloy is preserved and shared for future generations.

Please bring along any old photos, items, artefacts etc that you have. We will copy them on the day and you can bring them home again with you.
