HELP NOMINATE THE AFRC WIN THE AIB COMMUNITY FUND AWARD.

The Athlone FRC works tirelessly to deliver sustainable and environmentally conscious projects and programmes across the board, for the wellbeing and good of our community. This happens with very little little funding and a whole lot of community spirit. There is SO much much we want to achieve, to further the development of our community spaces. Help Athlone FRC receive the AIB Community Fund Award for sustainability to support our work in transforming disused urban spaces into biodiversity gardens, replacing graffiti with pollinator‑friendly murals, and building a free circular clothing and resources economy that strengthens community resilience and environmental stewardship.
Follow the link below to nominate us, it only takes 3mins of your time.

While we're on the subject of Pride🌈

Apprection post for on an incredible first summer festival. The parade was magical and the events over the entire week echo huge work behind the scenes from the committee.

funded making of this gorgeous parade float 'Sile Na Gig', which was delivered through a series of open workshops over 6 weeks, aimed at providing a creative voice for the LGBTQ+ community here in the Midlands.

The float was designed and workshops delivered by Community Arts Inclusion worker at the FRC, Aoife Doolan. And the workshop space was provided by the AFRC

'Misneach', the Irish word for Courage, was chosen to commemorate the LGBTQ trailblazers that came before to make progress like this parade possible. Most noteably we kept the late Michael Woods in our thoughts. Anam Cara 🙏

We can't wait for next year. Congratulations Heartlands Pride.

*PRISM* and *PRIDE* project, Cruinniú na nÓg.
🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈🌈

We were delighted to be asked by to collaborate on delivering this wonderful project with the Prism Youth group over at , for this years Cruinnu Na nOg, funded by Westmeath.

Aoife worked with the Youth Group over a 4/5 week period on designing and styling parade pieces for Heartlands Pride debut summer parade, the weekend just gone.

Massive thanks to the Prism group for their amazing contribution and to Shelly and the staff at for facilitating the collaberation with the FRC.

The Prism group have just finalised their group logo, designed by one of the youth group members, and Aoife will be returning to Gateway later in the summer to work on a mural project to bring it to life.

Again huge thanks to Christine from Heartlands Pride for including the LGBTQ+ Youth demographic in this inclusive festival.

What a week it's been for the Athlone Family Resource centre. Last Friday evening Aoife and Darren had the pleasure of attending the Westmeath Cathaoirleach awards at , where they received reward recognition for the Creative Hub community inclusion program.

Through this programme, the AFRC has opened many opportunities for the community to get involved in creative development projects that promote community inclusion, wellbeing through creative expression. It is responsible for so much of what you see though our annual summer street parades, Halloween activities, arts events, community gardening and much more. We love what we do and so it is so heartwarming to be recognised for the work.

Not only that, but we were surrounded by our peers who were also nominated and winners on the night. The , , , Athlone Canal Heritage group, Dean Kelly National School, Westmeath Community Development, and many more.
Athlone community groups ar thriving.

The cheque was presented to us by and Cathaoirleach Aoife Davitt.
Thank you to the judges and those at . It goes a long way.
