Today we remember our dear friend and team mate Paddy.

We remember his funny wit, his curious mind, his ability to bring laughter to a room and his commitment to his community.

He was a founding member of our team and he is dearly missed everyday by us all. He had the ability to bring calm and ease to people he met and followed it up with a joke that brought great laughter and happiness.

Always remembered and forever honoured.

This week, Ashford CFR had the pleasure of running a lifesaving skills session with members of Ashford Tidy Towns. and the Vartry Wood Estate community.

The session focused on simple but vital skills including CPR awareness, recognising emergencies, and what to do before emergency services arrive.

Community training like this is so important — early action can save lives, and building confidence within our community.

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and got involved. The willingness to learn these skills could one day make all the difference.

Local Response. Real Impact.

When you make that call, what you do next really matters. Small actions can make a big difference in helping emergency services reach and treat a patient quickly.

Choking can happen fast — knowing what to do can save a life

⚠️ Call 999/112 and have help on the way

If someone is choking and cannot speak, cough or breathe:

➡️ Give 5 back slaps between the shoulder blades
➡️ Follow with 5 abdominal thrusts
➡️ Repeat until the object is cleared or help arrives

⚠️ If they become unresponsive, call 999/112 immediately and start CPR

Take a moment to learn it — you might need it.

Local Response. Real Impact.

**Training Night**

Last night, Ashford CFR had the opportunity to train alongside our neighbours in Newcastle Wicklow Community Responders working through a range of realistic emergency scenarios.

Joint training like this is incredibly valuable — it ensures we can work seamlessly together when responding to calls across our communities.

When multiple resources are on scene, teamwork and understanding each other’s approach makes all the difference.

A big thank you to the Newcastle team for a great session. It’s always a benefit to share knowledge, experience, and skills.

Training in all environments💚

Our team are always practicing their skills in difficult environments to keep them sharp and ready to respond.

It's natural to want to see what's going on in an emergency situation, but please put the camera away 📵

If you witness a medical emergency or accident, respect the privacy of both patients and staff and don't take any photos or recordings.

Goodbye 2025 and welcome 2026.

Last year our volunteer responders attended 113 emergency calls in our community.

113 times our responders left their homes to help their community when they needed them most.

These calls come at any time day or night and our responders make the time and effort to help others in their biggest time of need.

We would like to thank the communities for their support of our team this year and we look forward to working together in 2026 to support our communities further.

Happy New Year to all. ✨️
