It really was a challenging day on the weather front for all athletes, coaches, parents and volunteers in Templemore with little respite between showers of rain and then sweltering heat but it was still fine performances from our team of athletes with many top 10 finishes and personal bests recorded.

On the individual front it was Jack Sheehy to the fore in the U13 boys long jump after taking the lead in the 2nd round with a jump of 4.46m he extended that lead to 4.54m to secure the ๐Ÿฅ‡on his final jump before having to rush to the final changeover zone for the U14 boys relay.
In the relays there was double success, firstly in the U14 boys Fionn Cashell stepped up to replace the injured Cody McKenna which meant the team were fielding two U13 runners but a strong start from Corey O'Carroll with Conor Slattery taking the baton on the back straight saw the boys in 2nd place for the 2nd changeover, Fionn held his position before passing to his fellow U13 athlete Jack Sheehy to bring the boys home in a strong ๐Ÿฅˆmedal position. Not long after that Fionn lined up to start the U13 boys relay, a strong start for the team with Jack running the 2nd leg this time had the boys moving towards the medal positions, Cillian Hannafin eating up more of the ground on the 3rd leg before passing to Luke McCann, the boys were in 4th place at this stage but a tremendous last leg from Luke saw the boys fighting it out for 3rd place but it was neck and neck all the way down the home straight and their nearest rivals but ๐Ÿฅ‰was the order of the day. An excellent result for the teams and special mention to Fionn and Jack running on both teams less than 20 mins apart.

Thanks to all Munster volunteers for running off the events in between the showers!

Far from ideal conditions โ˜”๏ธ today for our jumpers at All Ireland Schools in Tullamore. First up this morning was Eoin Malik in the Senior Boys Triple Jump where he placed 5th with a best jump of 13.04m from the first round. More to come for Eoin in the outdoor season, next up for him is Munster U20s next weekend.

Aoibhinn Oโ€™Driscoll made her debut at All Ireland schools in the Inter Girls competition, on the 3rd round Aoibhinn jumped to a huge new pb of 5.22m (her old pb was 5.06m) that qualified her to the top 6 final. That was Aoibhinnโ€™s best jump of the competition and she placed 6th overall.

Well done to all our athletes this weekend representing their schools, families and club at the highest level of schools competition in the country and no doubt inspired their clubmates with strong performances. We look forward to seeing the athletes compete again in Tullamore at National Athletics competitions in July.

Excellent performances from Hannah Sheehy and John McCarthy in the Junior race walks at All Ireland schools, each athlete was just a few seconds off their pbs with strong performances on their first occasion at All Ireland Schools.
Hannah crossed the line in 5th place in her race and John finished in 4th place in his race.
Both athletes stepped up from the minor age group to compete in the junior category and will be eligible again next year for the junior category again next year ๐Ÿ‘

Best of luck to the St Brendan's AC quartet of Hannah Sheehy, John McCarthy, Aoibhinn O'Driscoll & Eoin Malik as they compete in the All Irelands Schools this weekend in Tullamore. Hannah and John are up first on Friday evening as they compete in the Junior racewalks. Eoin will be in early action on Saturday competing in the Senior Boys Triple Jump followed by Aoibhinn in the Inter Girls Long Jump. An exciting moment for the athletes and their families as they represent their schools at the top schools athletes competition in the country, one that celebrates 110 years in existence this year and is the worldโ€™s second-longest running schools championships, after Jamaica.
