Annascaul walks is a small friendly walking club in the heart of the Di**le Peninsula, where brooding mountains, stunning coastlines and fast flowing rivers provide magnificent year round walking. The club embodies the adventurous spirit the friendly humour and the co-operative nature of Annascaul’s famous son, Tom Crean the antarctic explorer. The club holds two scheduled walks each Sunday, meeti

ng at Hanafins bar on the main street. We extend a warm welcome to individuals and clubs of all ages and abilities to join us on one of our walks or to follow one of the many trailed walks in the area.

3rd May 2026.

“A” and “B” walks; Mount Eagle from Slea Head.

Area; Slea Head / Dunquin.

Meeting point 1. Annascaul at 10:00

Meeting point 2; Car park overlooking the Blaskets just beyond Slea Head at 10:45

Starting and finishing point; Car park overlooking the Blakets..

Length; 4.9 miles, 7.7 KM.

Maximum elevation; 1693 ft, 516 M.

Grade; Moderate.

Time; 3 hours 30 minutes

Terrain; Mountain track, some stony patches and some boggy patches.

We meet in Annascaul at 10:00 and drive through Di**le and just past Slea Head and park in or near the car park there.

First we walk a very short distance South on the road till we come to a style on the left leading up to the mountainside. The grassy path twists and turns steeply for a while but later straightens out and heads directly North East to the summit of Mount Eagle.
The summit is very broad flat and grassy and is a fantastic spot for seeing all of West Kerry and of course the Reeks and even the Connemara mountains if it is clear.
We return along the same path and all the time, the Blaskets lie below us, a view as good as any in Ireland.
