☄️ The first major meteor shower of the year, the Quadrantids, is about to reach its peak activity!

Known for their intense, short-lived peak and the potential for brilliant "fireballs," this shower usually boasts up to 120 meteors per hour. However, there is a catch this year.

🌕 The peak coincides with the First Full Moon of 2026 (a Supermoon). The bright lunar glare will wash out fainter meteors, drastically reducing the visible rate.

The Strategy: Don't look for quantity; look for quality. The Quadrantids are famous for producing bright, colorful fireballs that can cut through the moonlight.

⏰ When: Best viewed in the early morning hours of January 4 (pre-dawn).
🌌 Where: Look North/Northeast towards the constellation Boötes.
👀 Tips: Face away from the Moon to preserve your night vision.

Clear skies and good luck to all observers! ✨

📱 Download the TFI Anseo app on your phone to book the bus, and it’ll pick you up from your location anywhere in Achill!

The Perseids, named because they seem to burst out of the constellation Perseus, are one of the highlights of the year for skygazers due to their high hourly rate and bright meteors, caused by the Earth slamming into debris left behind by comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle in July and August each summer.

We are delighted to offer our surf and now SUP instructor/ beach lifeguard course again this year. This is an amazing opportunity for participants to learn and improve their surfing and Stand-Up Paddling skills in one of Irelands best surf locations. Participants can expect to surf every day as well as swim twice a week building up their knowledge of weather, tides, surf forecasting, water conditions, equipment choice and maintenance, swim rescues, Aquatic first aid and rescues. Along with the hard skills of the sports and lifesaving participants will also focus on communication skills, teamwork and leadership, risk analysis and session planning as well as group control and teaching skills.
The course is a 26-week full time course based on Achill Island with all equipment and instruction provided and offers a brilliant opportunity to enhance and grow skills and knowledge.
We have limited the spaces this year to ensure participants engagement in the program fosters a deeper level of knowledge and know how in a meaningful and unique way. We strive to ensure all participants experience a truly unique learning environment tailored to suit their needs.
