If You See a Bee Swarm:
A swarm of honey bees is usually calm and temporary. The bees are often resting while scout bees search for a new home. In most cases, swarms move on within a day or two.
Please Do
Keep people and pets away from the swarm.
Observe from a safe distance.
If possible, send a clear photo and the exact location when contacting a beekeeper.
Please Don’t:
Do not spray water, insecticide, foam, or household chemicals.
Do not throw objects at the bees or try to move them yourself.
Do not block entrances if bees are entering a wall, roof, chimney, or vent.
Important: Bees Inside Buildings
If bees are entering a roof, chimney, wall cavity, soffit, or similar structure, this is not a simple swarm collection. It may already be an established colony.
Removing bees from buildings can require:
specialist access equipment,
opening parts of the structure,
work at height or building contractors.
For safety and insurance reasons, many beekeepers cannot undertake removals from:
chimneys,
roofs,
cavity walls,
high trees,
unsafe or inaccessible locations.
Before Contacting a Beekeeper
Please include:
your postcode or town,
whether the bees are clustered outside or entering a structure,
how high up they are,
how long they have been present,
photos or video if possible.
