We are happy to share this July, FNPF recorded encouraging Bali Myna (Leucopsar rothschildi) flock observations at two of our conservation sites in Bali.

📍 Kampoeng Jalak Bali (Tengkudak Village, Tabanan)
Over four days, our team observed up to 32 wild Bali Starlings arriving one by one. Flocks of this size are rarely recorded and are typically observed only about once a month.

📍 FNPF Nusa Penida, Bali Bird Sanctuary
Morning monitoring recorded 15 wild Bali Starlings, while the same flock reached 23 individuals during observations on the previous afternoon.

A flock is a group of wild young birds observed together at the same place and time. Large flocks of the Critically Endangered Bali Myna are rarely observed in the wild. Each observation is an important milestone, providing valuable information for long-term monitoring and offering hope for the species' recovery.

We are proud to celebrate that TUI Forest Borneo has been recognized as a One to Watch in the Regenerative Tourism category at the ICRT-SEA Responsible Tourism Awards 2026.

Since 2024, Friends of Nature, People and Forests (FNPF), with support from the TUI Care Foundation, has been restoring Wetland in Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo)—a peat swamp forest that provides critical habitat for endangered wildlife and stores significant amounts of carbon.

Together with local communities, our work focuses on:
🌿 Restoring peatland and forest ecosystems.
🦜 Protecting endangered wildlife and their habitats.
🤝 Strengthening local communities through conservation education.
🌱 Developing community-based ecotourism that supports both people and nature.

This recognition is a meaningful reminder that restoring nature takes time, trust, and collaboration. Every tree planted, every habitat restored, and every community engaged brings us one step closer to a healthier future for both people and wildlife.

We are grateful to the TUI Care Foundation, our partners, our dedicated field teams, and the local communities who continue to walk this journey with us. Together, we are proving that lasting conservation is possible when people and nature thrive side by side.

What if conservation success is not only about science—but also about culture?

We are proud to share our latest research published in Oryx highlights how Bali starling conservation in Besikalung Wildlife Sanctuary is strengthened by something often overlooked: local belief systems.

From nest box strategies to breeding outcomes, science plays a key role.
But what truly sustains protection is the integration of:

• Awig-awig (customary law enforcing protection)
• Tri Hita Karana (harmony between people, nature, and spirituality)

This combination has helped create a safe environment where Bali starlings can breed and thrive—even outside their typical habitat.

February 21 was World Pangolin Day.

Pangolins are closer to us than we think, and they are very important for our environment. They are the only mammals covered in scales, and they help keep ecosystems balanced by eating thousands of ants and termites every night. Without pangolins, insect populations can explode, harming crops and forests, and the natural balance of our habitats can be disturbed.

Sadly, pangolins are one of the most trafficked animals in the world. Their scales are made of keratin, just like human nails, and have no proven medical value. Yet illegal hunting continues to threaten their survival.

If you see a pangolin, do not touch, chase, feed, or move it. Keep a safe distance and report it:

1.Note the location and number of pangolins.
2.Contact BKSDA BALI +62 853-3377-4587 or BWRC +62 822-4796-0523
3. Give details so officers can handle it safely.

Help pangolins survive – share this, spread awareness, and protect wildlife.

Finally Home! 🕊️✨

A pair of Black-winged Mynas (Acridotheres melanopterus) has finally taken flight into the skies of Tengkudak Village! After a long journey of rehabilitation at the Bali Wildlife Rescue Center (BWRC)—some waiting patiently for 1 year, and others for up to 3 years.

Why Tengkudak?
This village, specifically the "Kampoeng Jalak Bali" and the Traditional Village of Tingkihkerep, has become a true sanctuary for endemic birds, driven by a community deeply committed to their preservation. Since 2024, dozens of Bali Mynas have been released here. With today’s release, there are now 3 pairs of Black-winged Mynas thriving in this ecosystem, further enriching the local biodiversity. 🌿
