During a breakfast engagement hosted by H.E. Abdulla Salem AlDhaheri, UAE Ambassador to Indonesia, and H.E. Mohammed Bandouq Al Qamzi, UAE Ambassador to ASEAN, IBC members discussed opportunities to further enhance trade, investment, and business cooperation as Indonesia and the UAE continue to strengthen bilateral economic relations.

Building on the Indonesia–UAE Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and growing trade and investment ties, discussions highlighted concrete opportunities in renewable energy and the green economy. IBC members also expressed strong interest in expanding their market presence in the UAE, exploring private investment and financing, and pursuing broader commercial partnerships with Emirati stakeholders.

This engagement marks another important step toward fostering a stronger, long-term partnership between Indonesian and Emirati businesses.

IBC Principal, Policy and Program Fazlur Rahman Hassan and Research & Program Analyst, Bima Nur M.R., participated in the ADEKSI National Technical Coordination Meeting on 8–9 October 2026, highlighting urban tourism’s role in driving local economic growth.

Through the “Plug and Play Tourism Cities” model, IBC encouraged DPRD members to set clear development priorities, prepare investment-ready sites, streamline permits, ensure basic infrastructure, and provide regulatory certainty to accelerate business operations and increase locally generated revenue (PAD).

The discussions also emphasized the importance of predictable investment costs and regulations in attracting private-sector participation and maximizing the economic potential of urban tourism.

At the Australia Indonesia Business Council (AIBC) National Conference in Perth, IBC COO William Sabandar brought Indonesian business perspectives to discussions on expanding bilateral economic cooperation.

Speaking in two sessions, “Pathways to Success – Building Two-Way Market Access” and “Partnering for Success: Investment & Infrastructure,” William highlighted opportunities to attract investment, advance technology and skills, and strengthen production and supply chains between both countries.
Building on lessons from MRT Jakarta, he underscored how capable local institutions and long-term partnerships can turn international investment and expertise into tangible infrastructure outcomes. Clean energy, special economic zones, and urban services also offer promising opportunities for deeper collaboration.

IBC Principal Policy and Program Rebekka Angelyn moderated the thematic session “Accelerating Multi-Use Forestry through Partnerships, Markets, and Landscape Collaboration” at the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (IISF) 2026.

The session explored how Indonesia can move beyond timber-centric forest management by unlocking opportunities across carbon, ecosystem services, and non-timber forest products (NTFPs) and highlighted the role of stronger partnerships, market linkages, and landscape-level collaboration in creating new opportunities for businesses and communities.

By linking commercial opportunities to forest stewardship, multi-use forestry can support regenerative forest business models that create shared economic value, strengthen community participation, and support the long-term sustainability of Indonesia’s forests.

To strengthen ASEAN’s energy security through regional cooperation, IBC and ERIA met H.E. Abdulla Salem Al Dhaheri, Ambassador of the UAE to Indonesia, and H.E. Mohamed Ahmed Mohamed Bandouq AlQamzi, Ambassador of the UAE to ASEAN, to explore cooperation on the ASEAN Joint Oil Stockpiling initiative on October 3.

The discussion highlighted the importance of regional cooperation in strengthening ASEAN’s energy security and resilience, with the UAE sharing its experience in oil stockpiling arrangements and energy supply.

The meeting also explored opportunities for the UAE to contribute to developing the proposed ASEAN Joint Oil Stockpiling mechanism.
The engagement marks a meaningful step toward advancing a more coordinated and resilient energy security framework for ASEAN.
