Story of Kukuh Village
Once upon a time there was a man called I Gusti Ngurah Tabanan. He is an ascetic who travelled around forests to achieve enlightenment. There was a time he got an order to throw the ashes of the bodies into the sea. While he executed the order, he saw the great waves called genjong. That tragedy leads him to create a great rock, which is now known as Gonjeng Temple in Tabanan. After those incidents, he saw the light that came from the forest. It made him instantly follow the light and meditate over there. At that time, the weather was really hot, so he was looking for banana leaves to cover the ground. He also did not use the incense and golden banana as the offerings while praying because of the situation. However, the interesting part is, he really adored the nature of that site. Therefore, as an influential figure, he decided to name the location as Kukuh Village.
