The Ministry of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia has issued an official clarification to the public regarding the death of Musofa, the first Javan Rhinoceros individual successfully translocated under the “Red and White Operation for Javan Rhino Translocation Program” in Ujung Kulon National Park. This clarification aims to ensure that the public receives accurate, transparent, and science-based information about what occurred.
During a press conference, Rohmat Marzuki, Deputy Minister of Forestry, emphasized that the translocation process had been carried out according to scientific standards and wildlife conservation ethics. He expressed deep condolences while also providing the public with a thorough explanation.
“First of all, allow us to express our deepest sorrow over the passing of a Javan Rhinoceros individual named Musofa, who has long been an important part of efforts to strengthen the Javan Rhino population in Ujung Kulon National Park,” said Deputy Minister Rohmat.
He continued by stating that Musofa was the first Javan Rhino successfully translocated as part of the national conservation program. This translocation effort was a scientific and strategic step to safeguard the sustainability of the Javan Rhino population, one of the rarest species in the world.
Furthermore, the Deputy Minister stressed that the Javan Rhino is a critically endangered species facing serious threats to the survival of its population.
