45 students, 45 new reef structures...and 45+ kgs of waste off our coast!!👏🏼🎉

​Yesterday, we had the absolute pleasure of hosting 45 incredible students from Northwestern Qatar Student Affairs!

​Together, they didn't just learn about marine conservation—they put it directly into action. Right after deploying 45 reef stars, they teamed up with our interns for a beach cleanup, pulling 20 kg of plastic bottles, 5 kg of glass, and 20 kg of general trash out of the environment.

​Huge shoutout to the NUQ crew—your energy was contagious, and the ocean is genuinely better off because you were here. Cheers to cleaner waters and growing reefs! 💙

This is exactly what happened to Ellen (the new ocean addict on this reel)—she joined us for an internship and completely fell in love with the ocean. In 3 weeks, she passed her Open Water course, Advanced, and now her Deep Specialty... plus some coral planting sessions, of course! 🪸🩵

25 dives later, she proved to be one of the best students we’ve ever had—so cheerful and always so enthusiastic to learn more. We absolutely loved having her with us. 💙

Congrats again Ellen on all those certifications—now the whole underwater world is yours to discover! The whole team is looking forward to seeing you back here again soon.

Here, at Livingseas, we believe that before you can rebuild a reef, you need to understand how it lives. That is why education is at the heart of our Coral Restoration Experience.

Every session begins with an interactive workshop where you’ll dive into marine science—learning how reef ecosystems function, the real threats facing ocean life, and the exact impact our choices have on marine survival.

Once you have that foundational understanding, you turn knowledge into direct action. You’ll build, tag, and deploy your own Reef Star underwater, giving fragile coral fragments a stable home to thrive on the seabed in Padangbai.

It's like having a massive giant glide toward you. It moves impossibly slow, scull-flapping its elongated dorsal and a**l fins like giant underwater wings.

It is easily one of the most surreal and special encounters you can ever have in the ocean. ✨👁️

Did you know that damselfish are essentially living reef doctors?

Scientists recently found that wounded corals actually heal up to 55% faster when damselfish move in. By fanning their fins to boost water movement and leaving behind natural nutrients, these tiny fish give injured corals the exact boost they need to bounce back.

In this photo, you can see the real magic of deploying Reef Stars here in Padangbai. We build the home, and almost immediately, damselfish move in to start doing the daily maintenance.

Every single damselfish hovering in this photo is actively helping us keep this reef healthy and growing.

When we say we recreate entire reefs, it’s a process we’ve spent years testing and refining to get right.

The ocean destroys most human structures. Heavy concrete sinks into the sand, and unlinked frames shift with strong currents, crushing fragile corals...

To build a reef that actually lasts, you can't fight the power of the ocean—you have to design around it.

Using sturdy, interconnected steel Reef Stars, we elevate 18 coral fragments off the loose sea floor.

Because water glides right through the open design instead of pushing against it, the entire matrix stays rock-solid even in heavy swells. This gives 18 coral fragments on every frame the exact stability they need to grow, fuse together, and rebuild the ocean floor.

Each fragment is carefully tied to the structure by hand by our dive team. Up here, it looks like simple underwater labor. Down there, it’s the exact moment a degraded rubble field begins its transformation back into a thriving marine ecosystem.

This isn't just planting—it's giving the ocean a structural foundation to heal itself, fragment by fragment.
