Could you picture a better classroom photo than this one? 😍

16 students and 3 teachers from Chadwick International — an IB school from Songdo, South Korea — just spent 5 days with us in Padangbai. Five days of getting into the water, learning how reefs actually work, and planting corals with their own hands on a real restoration site.

Day 1 — workshop and first coral planting.
Days 2 and 3 — back on our reef, diving, planting, maintaining.
Day 4 — leisure dives to explore Bali's waters.
Day 5 — Nusa Penida. Because if you're going to learn about the ocean, you might as well see all of it! 🐠

Chadwick has been bringing students to us for several years now — different faces every time, same energy, same curiosity. We never get tired of it.

To this year's group — you were brilliant! The reef has your name on it now!

Our interns Ibnu, Samsuri, Pandu and Buhari from the University of Mataram, Lombok, are hard at work!

After conceptualizing and designing a new structure, the team has begun construction. The goal of this new structure is to create additional space and provide habitat and shelter for fish and marine life.🐠🪸

We can’t wait to see the finished result and how it blends into the underwater seascape! Stay tuned for updates.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 20 months since we kicked off our coral cooperation with in Thailand.

The progress of the restoration site has been nothing short of amazing. We’re seeing stunning coral growth with an approximate 85% survival rate overall—especially thriving in the shallow planting areas. Even better, there’s been a significant increase in marine life returning to the site! We are so excited to witness this vibrant resurgence and grateful to the for their dedication to nurturing these underwater ecosystems.

The site in Phuket (Thailand) is a collaboration with DiveRace/DiveRace Foundation, and initiatives like this give us hope for the future of our oceans and serve as a reminder of the positive impacts we can create together. Let’s continue to protect and preserve our marine ecosystems! 🌍💙

Our main growing medium consists of our coral nurseries, which are made of 2x5m metal mesh strands bent over stakes in the middle to create a slope. Each nursery can hold up to 1,000 coral fragments, and if left undisturbed, these fragments can grow into healthy colonies.

We continually experiment with different methods for coral growth, and our latest project is an initiative led by one of our staff members, Bayu. He has inserted between 25 and 30 coral fragments into the gaps of a 6m long nylon rope. The aim of this experiment is to test how quickly the coral fragments on the rope will grow over the course of a month.

The site typically experiences strong currents, so Bayu had to secure the rope firmly around several stakes, interwoven within a set of nurseries.

We can’t wait to see the first results in a month from now! 🪸

One successful run to Candidasa, rescued 36 crates of live coral 🪸 for a chance of survival on the restoration site.

We are racing against time as the beach path construction in Candidasa is in full swing and the reef has started to decline ‼️

Huge shout-out to several individuals who have donated to the cause SAVE THE CORALS 🪸 OF CANDIDASA. 💙🐠🌊 You are ocean heroes.

Thank you so much, Karla, Katya, Liliana, Abigail, Grecia, and Lynne, for coming over the other day and giving the coral reef🪸 some much-needed TLC💙!

Together, you added six reef stars and a total of 108 corals to the restoration site. We hope you learned more about the importance of the coral reef and had fun during your Coral Workshop!

This activity not only made a positive impact but was also 100% sustainable. We loved having you with us, and we will send updates on how your corals are doing.

🪸 Over 900 corals have been planted in May through the generous support of our monthly reef sponsors. Those corals found a new home on 46 reef- and super stars, covering a total new reef area of 33.4 square meters.

You are Ocean Heroes! Your generous and unwavering monthly commitment is making a tangible difference in our efforts to restore marine ecosystems. Each coral planted represents a stride toward healthier oceans and a more sustainable future.

📢‼️Urgent Update from Candidasa ‼️📢

When we finally returned to the reef in Candidasa this week, we were shocked to witness the extent of the damage. 💔

After being unable to work on the reef for the last three months, the effects of the ongoing construction for the Bali Beach Conservation Project (BBCP Phase II) are devastating. Upon our return, we were confronted with a long stretch of destroyed reef, alarming signs of pollution from run-offs, and rampant algae growth.🆘

We are doing everything we can to save as many corals as possible. 🕚

But we urgently need your support! Your donations will help fund trips to rescue at-risk corals and relocate them to safety. Every contribution is crucial to protect these precious ecosystems for future generations.

Please consider donating to our cause and help us safeguard our oceans!
