Itโs no secret that we have to work harder and longer to catch each dog now, and when our patience runs thin, it sometimes helps to look at the bigger picture.
This is what the past 18 months of KLD's work looks like on a map. Every dot represents one or more dogs we have sterilised and returned to their territory.
We map the dogs because targeted sterilisation is about more than numbers. It means knowing where dogs are, working in specific areas, getting dogs familiar with us, and building on the work that has already been done.
After years of working in Kuta, there are fewer unsterilised dogs left. That means every dog we sterilise now represents a larger part of the remaining breeding population, and preventing that one dog from breeding has an increasingly important effect on what happens next.
Weโre not starting from scratch each time. Weโre building on years of sterilisation in the same area, reducing the number of dogs able to breed and the puppies that follow.
