The court has delivered its verdict for the case regarding the violent beating and killing of a street dog in Mataram.

The defendant, I Gede Agus Januartha alias Geroge, was sentenced to 4 months in prison by the Mataram District Court for animal cruelty resulting in the death of the animal.

The prosecution had sought a 6-month sentence, so the court ultimately imposed a 4-month sentence.

The ex*****on of the sentence is expected to take place within a maximum of the next 7 days.

While awaiting the ex*****on, we will also seek further information from the defendant regarding the network involved in the illegal trade of captured dogs, including identifying those who may still be supplying captured dogs to a dog-meat trader known as Longong.

This is an important step in holding perpetrators of animal cruelty accountable under Indonesian law, and we hope this case will help uncover the wider network behind the illegal dog trade.

We are so proud to be a part of this incredible team who made this happen. This is a true mark in history for animal rights in Lombok ✊🏽
