On February 14, 2026 around 11.30 AM, a mother of painted terrapin (Batagur borneoensis) was found by a resident of Jaring Halus Village trapped in a fishing rod belonging to a local fisherman. This discovery is of concern because this species is a rare animal that lives in coastal areas and estuaries.

Following up on the report, on Monday, February 16 2026, the Satucita Lestari Indonesia Foundation (YSLI) team went directly to the location to carry out the rescue process. After being confirmed in a safe condition, the mother of painted terrapin was then released back to its natural habitat.

This event is a reminder that the existence of painted terrapin in nature is still very dependent on our common concern. From citizen reports to the rescue process, every small step is very meaningful for the preservation of this rare animal.

🌿 Every small rescue step is a great hope for the preservation of painted terrapin.

The Satucita Lestari Foundation team cleaned the pool as well as measured several Painted terrapin individuals who were under treatment. A clean pool is one of the important keys to maintaining its health. This activity is part of the routine maintenance of painted terrapine in the conservation program. 🐒

In addition to ensuring that the water and environment remain clean, measurements are also carried out periodically to monitor the growth of each individual. Data such as carpace length and physical condition help the team understand their development over time.

Treatment like this may look simple, but it is very important in conservation efforts. From a clean pool to recorded growth data, everything is part of a small step to maintain the survival of pain.

Every individual that is cared for is the hope for the future of this species in nature.

Melindungi satu sarang berarti menjaga satu generasi baru tetap hidup.

The process of laying Painted terrapin (Batagur borneoensis) is an important moment in its life cycle. 🐒

Adult females will go up to sandy land when the tide is low and the atmosphere is relatively safe. With her hind legs, she dug a hole Β±20–30 cm deep as a place to store eggs. In one egg laying, painted terrapin can produce around 10–25 eggs, depending on the size and age of the mother.

The eggs are then piled up again with sand to maintain the natural temperature and humidity. The incubation process usually lasts about 60–90 days before hatching.

Because the habitat is increasingly threatened and the population is decreasing, this natural process often requires supervision and rescue efforts to increase the success rate of hatching.

Protecting one nest means keeping a new generation alive.

🐒 Kenalan sama tuntong laut yuk!

Sayangnya, hidup tuntong laut nggak seaman kelihatannya.

🐒 Let's get to know the Painted Terrapin!

Painted terrapin are turtles that live in brackish waters, river estuaries, and mangrove areas. They go ashore only when sunbathing and also during the spawning season. Uniquely, their food is dominated by plants such as mangrove leaves and fruits, so they indirectly help maintain the balance of the coastal ecosystem.

Unfortunately, the life of painted terrapin is not as safe as it seems. The eggs are often targeted, the habitat is decreasing because the mangroves are damaged, and human activities on the coast make their living space narrower.

Protecting the painted terrapin can't be alone. It is necessary to protect the mangroves, educate the community, and stop supporting wildlife trade. Slowly, but if it's crowded, the impact can be big.

Let's care more about coastal animals. Because what we take care of today, will be their future tomorrow. 🌱

Mangrove forests are vital coastal ecosystems that offer countless benefits to both nature and humans. These unique forests act as natural barriers, protecting shorelines from erosion and storm surges, while their complex root systems filter water and provide essential habitats for marine life, including fish, crabs, and birds. Mangroves also play a significant role in combating climate change by absorbing large amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere.

However, despite their importance, mangrove forests are facing severe threats from deforestation, pollution, and urban development. The loss of these crucial ecosystems puts not only biodiversity at risk but also the well-being of coastal communities. It’s time to protect and restore our mangrove forests, because their survival is essential for a sustainable future. 🌱🌍

What difference between tortoiseand turtle?

The main difference between turtles and tortoises is their habitat and physical adaptations. Tortoises are land animals with thick, sturdy legs designed for walking on land, while turtles are primarily aquatic or semi-aquatic and have webbed feet or flippers for swimming. Tortoises have a heavier, dome-shaped shell, while turtles have a more streamlined shell for efficient movement in water.
Tortoises and Turtles have unique ways of protecting themselves. Tortoises, being land-dwellers, use their hard, dome-shaped shells to retreat into for protection against predators. They can pull their heads, legs, and tails inside their shells when threatened.
Turtles, on the other hand, rely more on their ability to swim away quickly to escape danger. While their shells offer some protection, they are more vulnerable to predators in the ocean. Their primary defense is their speed and ability to dive deep into the water to evade threats.
