We are the only organisation on Nusa Penida island that runs a 'free for locals' sterilisation program for dogs & cats. We are committed to decreasing the number of homeless dogs & cats utilising our ethos of catch, sterilise, release. We also atten

d to homeless dog/cat emergency medical cases and we feed street dogs were possible. We also aim to improve the overall health of the domestic animal population in general via our program of sterilisation; vaccination and education.

You think this is a one-off message? Sadly, we get them every other day from visitors to our beautiful tropical island. This is the ugly side of tourism that no one wants you to see.

How does the poor state of animals reflect on tourism? Not very well I would suggest.

Many tourists tell us that they will never return to the island, that's got to impact tourism right? Hitting businesses in the pocket where it hurts. So what are we doing collectively as a community to address the problem?

If you run a business on Nusa Penida your thoughts and suggestions would be most welcome...

Paws of Nusa Penida have already given this poor street dog treatment for mange so he should be feeling better soon!

🐾 They saw him suffering in the busy harbour area and didn’t look away! 🙏

A couple of tourists recently reported a young dog in terrible condition down at the harbour. Suffering from severe mange, a condition that is heartbreakingly common on Nusa Penida, this dog would have been in constant pain and discomfort.

With the community help, we were able to locate the dog and begin treatment immediately. This is what collaboration looks like. This is what compassion does.

This dog has suffered, but today, its healing has begun.

Animals in distress, whether suffering from mange, injury, illness, or tick-borne diseases are not just heartbreaking to witness, they also reflect the urgent need for stronger community care on an island that depends so heavily on tourism.

Right now, Paws of Penida is the only animal welfare organisation operating on Nusa Penida, and while we do everything we can, we cannot do it alone.

🙏 We need your help!

We’re looking for people on the island who are willing to assist us in distributing life-saving medications.

👉 We will provide everything you need
👉 All we ask is that you take a photo of the dog for our records
This allows us to track treatment and reach more animals in need.

💊 URGENT: Medication needed
We are running critically low on antiparasitic treatments such as:
• Simparica
• Bravecto
• Credelio
• NexGard
If you are travelling to Bali and can bring any of these with you, it would make a direct and immediate impact.

If not, you can still help by making a donation, we will use 100% of it to purchase medication for dogs in need.
🔗 Please see the link in our bio to support.

We ran a mini impromptu sterilisation session today.
The vets came to the island to help with some cases in the community and we got a call from someone asking for help to sterilise dogs and cats in their village so we went to help.

Anytime we can reduce the occurrence of unwanted litters we do what we can. It's the only way to stop abandoned puppies and kittens from ending up on the streets where sadly, most of them are too young to survive.

We are the only animal welfare organisation helping animals on Nusa Penida, Bali. We have a huge challenge ahead of us which means we need your support.

Please click on the bio link and sponsor a sterilisation or two, it is a small act of kindness that saves so many lives.

🚨 We Can’t Do This Alone 🚨

We are the smallest of the small here on Nusa Penida, the only animal welfare organization on the island and right now, we are overwhelmed.

Every single day, we are faced with sick, injured, and abandoned animals needing urgent help. The calls don’t stop. The suffering doesn’t pause. And the reality is, we simply cannot reach them all.

Not with our current funds.

Not with our small team.

Not across a 200km² island.

This is bigger than us.
It takes a village.
It takes a community.
It takes an entire island coming together to create real change.

💛 Here’s how you can help:
• Donate — every single amount makes a difference
• Help us fundraise — share, connect, advocate
• Live on Nusa Penida? Join us on the ground

If you can help in any way, please reach out to us.
Tap on the bio link for ways to donate.
Together, we can change their lives but we cannot do it without you.

First they laughed while cooking a dog… now they’re apologising. What changed?
Maybe the fact that they got caught?!

A few days ago, a video went viral across Bali. It showed individuals in Nusa Penida happily preparing a dead dog for consumption — laughing, joking, proud.

The response from Bali’s dog-loving community was immediate. Outrage. Heartbreak. Disbelief. The incident was reported.

Today, a second video has surfaced.
The same individuals now appear subdued. Contrite, apologetic. The one in the middle claims the dog had been his since she was a puppy, and that she became sick and died while he was at work. So he decided to eat her when most normal people would have grieved and buried her.

From jovial and bragging… to apologetic and defensive. Just hollow rhetoric. And that contrast is what sits so heavily with us. Because this isn’t just about one incident. It’s about a mindset. A mindset that still exists — where dogs are not seen as companions, not as sentient beings, but as something disposable.

Sadly, the laws in Indonesia remain weak when it comes to protecting animals. And incidents like this don’t just harm animals — they damage the reputation of places like Nusa Penida, impacting tourism and the very communities that rely on it.

What makes this even harder for us… is that our team has previously carried out rescues and sterilisation programs right on the beach in front of this very dive centre where these individuals work!

To stand in those same places, working to protect and care for dogs… knowing what has happened there… leaves a bitter taste.

We are in 2026. And yet, cruelty like this still exists!

But we won’t stop believing in a better future. A future where dogs are respected. Loved. Protected. Honoured for the incredible beings they are.

Feel free to share your disgust in the comments section.
