Before welcoming guests aboard, “Euphy” was blessed by local priests on Penida, a meaningful beginning rooted in gratitude, respect, and local tradition.

Now, she is ready, and so are we!

Today, on a dive at PED in Nusa Penida, we found a newly sunk drift net.

At 12 metres, reef fish were already trapped - goatfish, rabbitfish, butterflyfish, damsels, lionfish and more. Many were already dead.

We followed the net down.

It went to 39 metres.

Fish after fish, coral torn apart, sponges cut clean through. We freed who we could. The dive lasted 80 minutes. We brought the net up, but it changed us.

In five years of diving here, this is the largest drift net we’ve ever seen.

Nusa Penida is a Marine Protected Area. This should not be happening here.

We remove fishing line weekly. Last week alone: a line with nearly 100 hooks.

Protection without enforcement is not protection.

Today, our only focus was getting this net out. But we shouldn’t be finding them here in the first place 😞
