Filantropi Indonesia has returned from WINGSForum 2026 in Montréal, where we joined some 500 philanthropy leaders from across the globe.
One idea from the opening plenary has stayed with us is that generosity is ancient, and much of it has never involved money. Philanthropy, as a formal sector, is the system we built to organise that generosity. If so, the task ahead may be less about making the system more efficient and more about inspiring and allowing more generosity to move through it.
In the regional working group, the same themes surfaced from every country: ageing societies, a generational shift in how people give, changing political conditions, and the steady rise of individual giving. Each country brings a different strength.
Indonesia's generosity has never been in question. What we bring home from Montréal is a clearer view of how to organise it well, and of the partners we will need to do so.
